Astro Van AWD - 2" or 4" lift?

Ya you're probably right. Assuming you drive alot of dirt, do you have any mileage estimates you get between having to change out those front end components?

My van had 55k miles on it when I installed the 4" kit. Now, 3 1/2 yrs later, it has 92k with many thousands off pavement. My front end is still nice and tight.

I asume the Astro Vans don't have low range right?

How are your A/T's holding up?

Is there any way to put a T-Case with a low range in one?

I have about 3000 on mine and it was good when I started, now its a bit loose. No telling what components or when they were installed when I got it so I can't say how long good stuff like moog will last. I don't want to give up the ride this has for a solid axle, so I'm going to invest in the moog parts and pray. We shall see!

You are correct in your assumption.

I have a Hi/Lo range Tcase out of an S-10 Blazer, regeared to 4:10, add a trans cooler, no big deal.

I've done a lot without having low range and the auto-trans is holding up fairly well. Grumpy's is a little worn with over 330k miles, but Lucas transmission fix has helped.

There are several Astros that have had 2spd transfer cases swapped in them, Grumpy will be one of them eventually.

Hey guys, I have a 91EXT that i drive fully loaded (the van loaded not me) and towing a trailer almost constantly. It seems the tranny is the weakest link, so i am swapping it out and was contemplating a bigger finned pan, a remote cooler with electric fan,an possibly a high performance filter system advertised by my friendly local parts supplier.
Any or all of that just a waste of time and money, and is there anything i should be doing that i am missing? ie shift kit etc.?
Being disabled vet on VA pension, i need the biggest bang for my buck ; but also need to start somewhere and work my finances up to gear swaps and the like.

Rokcrawler makes valid points about drivetrain wear vs. performance gains. I can second his opinion with another perspective. I have put alot of miles on in the 4 corners / Moab area. 235's are plenty to run any trail a van can run without serious mods. There are also mega epic dirt roads that one can drive in an awd car such as the La Sals with amazing camping spots. You can also run some of the lower rated slick rock trails with epic scenery and plenty of adrenaline without putting everything into your suspension. Take the extra money and time and set up a solid fridge, upgrade your sleeping situation, etc. Moab of all places offers a vast amount of trails for all levels of build, yet even the lower rated trails do not disapoint.

I stuffed 30x9.5s under my van with the Overland Vans 2" lift and the Backcountry Van's wheel-well hacking. Feels good, man.
