AT Chaser vs. Horizon / Pros and Cons?

I drew up custom mudflap plans to allow relatively quick install/removal onto my Slee rear bumper. But some have said, even inspite of the large heavy "flap" material I was going to use that it wouldn't help that much. What do you think?

I'm using stock Defender mud flaps that I sourced from Rovers Down South and they are VERY thick. It has cut down on a lot of rocks hitting the trailer and I'd still do it again, but like I mentioned it seems like a few still make it through.

Okay, back from 2 days of moderately windy conditions on the Monterey Peninsula to test the awning set up. It worked well. It was staked down at the feet and never budged. The side walls did not get deployed as I forgot to drill the additional holes in the case that are required at the shop before I left. In a few more days I'll have pix to show of the whole configuration.

Looks great! We should be placing our order before the end of the year. Any idea on a final price of the Awning? Also I assume there is no interference with the lid opening when the tent is deployed? Hey, what's that red rachet strap you got connected to your wheel for? Are those red/silver shocks OME shocks or are you using a different shock on the trailers now?

EA Awning Not Suited for Horizon?

Is the EA awning too long (and possibly in the way) for use on the Horizon? It would be nice to have the ability to attach walls which is something that the 6' Fiamma does not have as an option as far as I know.

We are using the Eezi Awn here on the prototype as it's a 2 meter awning (78.75 inches) so the length is just right taking into account the 72" length of the lid and the brackets extending out further than that.

The Fiamma awning is 1.8 meters (70.87 inches) so it's not long enough as is for this set up. We will be working on some extender bars so we can make the fit happen on the 1.8 Fiamma.

The Eezi Awn awning is more expensive but does allow for the attachment of wall panels.

The 78.75" long Eezi Awn is too long for the 54 inch long Horizon box. It's much better suited to the 70.87 inch long Fiamma. Unfortunately no company makes a short awning that has walls.

We are working on pricing. Some parts have to be designed and laser cut from Stainless.

I've been talking with Martyn and we're getting ready to pull the trigger on a Horizon with 1800 tent and fridge with solar system. The fridge sliding out the rear was the reason we we're going with the Horizon. The cargo boxes on the sides are also great.
Should be placing the order in the next couple weeks. :wings:

We talked about it and gave it some thought and realized that the fridge and solar was more "bling" than we really want. So we're gonna go with a basic Horizon and tent.

Can't wait to place the order and get that bad-boy here!

I hear ya! Mine is somewhere in the assembly process (possibly in paint) and I am really looking forward to some weekend outings when it arrives. I had to get the fridge (bling) but did drop the battery and EA T-Top - I have most every other option available and did opt for the linexed coated side panels and 3 sides of the front box (more bling but worthwhile I think). For solar (yea more bling) I'm going with soft panels on top of the awning w/the extra brace so as not to stretch the fabric. The tent roof might be another mounting possibility. I really wanted the EA RTT but opted for the ARB Simpson II (non-bling to make up for other bling) with enclosed skirt after "much" contemplation about options/price and intended use here in the AZ desert. Pics to follow eventually.

Please post some pics in a few months when yours arrives.

Bling?

My thoughts are that none of the things you have selected or decided against are "Bling". All the components are highly functional and well adapted to Expedition travel.

Rather I think you have made wise choices on what it is you need, and what it is that you can afford. Sound judgment.

Down the road any accessories you want can be bolted into place.

We don't differentiate between customers who buy base models and add as they go along, or customers who buy fully loaded models, all are welcome!

I got a question for you Martyn. I noticed that some are now getting the front portion of trailer covered with Linex. I remember reading in the review of the Chaser posted here that you are now covering the front fenders with a protective vinyl shield. Is this true? If so I can only assume the vinyl is not working well enough and the Linex is necessary to prevent chipping?

Here's a primer of what the walls will look like. This photo was at Trophy last year. The awning is a 2.5 meter, so a bit longer. The tent has the shower skirt option on it as well. I think M&M have really got something there with the awning/rec vee panel option. It adds a whole other dimension to the chaser. I already have dibs on #2.:wings:

We use the chip guard vinyl shield on the fenders of the Chaser trailer and it has been holding up very well.

We offer Linex as an option on both the Horizon and Chaser. On the Horizon we do the three front panels of the nose box and the fronts of the side box. On the Chaser we do the 3 front panels of the nose box and the front panel of the main box.

Cost on Linex is around $280.00 and it is something we can go when you order it or you can get done after the fact once you get a chance to see how badly road rash is effecting you.

That's what i was asking in a previous post. Glad to hear you sell the components separate. I'll get my trailer faster this way and do the add-ons as i go.

Bling was the short way of saying : we realized that after all the years we've spent backpacking and camping, do we really need a solar powered fridge? It would've been just bling for us. It sounded really cool though!! What really mattered was that we like the Horizon and it's basic features, but don't need the extras. Keep it simple and easy. At least not now. I have a pretty good system with my cooler and have been able to keep beers cold for up to 6 days without adding ice.

Martyn, thanks for rolling along with my flip-flops. I'll be calling you later to put down the deposit.
