ATO AterraXL composite flatbed camper (pagoda roof)

Curious what happens to his partnership with OEV when he starts selling slide-ins? Even though the Aterras are hard-sides, with all ATO's other offerings that's slicing the pie pretty thin.

I don't believe it will be an issue. They seem to have a close business relationship, and he speaks highly of the OEV product.

Thx for the link to this recent profile story.

I'm unsure how the superior AterraXL interior layout will work on a slide-in. We'll see.

Would love to see OEV and ATO have an Aterra baby.

PS--I'm still loving my #001. So easy to use, tons of space(more than I think I'll need), so far has been thermally comfortable (definitely have to pull the blackout shades in the sun). Will see how it does this winter as it's already coming.

Will be interesting to see how they actually pull off the slide ins.

DOZENS of shapes and sizes of beds nowadays and the ones total composites are doing look kinda goofy on a lot of the trucks and don’t look right.

Well OEV is doing the hard wall version of the HBE, see how that compares. Definitely need more user reports on the AterraXL. I'm interested to see how you do in cold weather.

It's been said before, but I also want AT Overland to make a pop-up version of this so bad I can hardly stand it! ....Hard side version simply won't fit, height wise, on the mountain trails we drive on.

Just bring along a pole saw... ?

Twice the price: https://overlandex.com/base-camp-h/ Noticed that OEV mentions R5 for their 1.5" honeycomb floor.

Amazing how "cheap" these were a few years ago...

EDIT: Oh... I see the Basecamp popup is over double the price of the HBE (anyone know why that is?), so if they make a HBE hardside, it should be more affordable.

♫ Off road, again. Just can't wait to get...

To clarify, OEV is now offering a hardwall version of the Hudson Bay and they estimate about $10,000 more that soft top version. The Base-Camp is one level up (9' length, permanently mounted to chassis (not on a flatbed), next level up interior, etc.) and yes, is about twice the price of the Hudson Bay (and the Aterra). Base-Camp is available in both hardwall and softtop.

Oh oh a rough family member LOL. Just kidding :)

It's actually funny that you mention that. It's one of the things that drive me crazy. We designed the campers to fit certain truck very well. Then there are others that are simply just odd. For example: It happened several times time that customer buy the camper first, put it on their existing truck till the "proper" one is available. Of course I only have pictures of the odd ones :)

Would be interesting to see TC, Bear, etc. with an 8ft flatbed model with full interior comparable to AterraXL / OEV Hudson Bay hardwall including an indoor shower.

Personally I don't see how the extra storage (or water tanks) down low near the frame on a Base-Camp is worth twice the price of the others stated, unless you REALLY need a small pass-thru to truck cab. I'm swimming in extra storage in my setup, and honestly other flatbed manufacturers could have added a large rear sliding tray too for more gear storage if needed.

The large price jump is something I spoke to Arnold about. I've posted in the HBE thread where I asked hime if a 9 foot HBE could be offered. It will be interesting to see what HowardH thinks of his Base Camp.

Number one thing that impressed me about the AterraXL was how roomy it felt, and the internal storage.

Agreed. Which is why if there was an OEV SW poptop (much thicker walls than Aterra), with the AterraXL interior, I think that'd lead to even better sales [perhaps both OEV and ATO could profit from such?]. It'd actually feel roomy vs stuffy inside, loads of storage, best 4seasonability, lower roofline for better trail access(this is the one I'll need to live with the most).

The HBE really needs a rethink on the interior setup me thinks.

There are several in the making. Can’t forget that our builders do the interior all custom. Therefore it will be very hard to compare features side by side.
One thing I personally like to see is thermal images of every manufacturer claiming 4 season insulation.

Proof in pudding, right? :)
