Congratulations, John, to you and your crew. It's a most impressive piece of work. Thanks for taking the time to share the annotated photos.

Hi HowardH.....I just realised something that I may not have explained to you before.

The overhang on the Crewcab version is quite a bit longer than on the single cab version. This vehicle has a 4000 mm wheelbase with camper sitting further aft whereas a single cab version will have a 3400mm WB. The wheel arch is then cut in wherever the axle needs to sit or replaced with a larger arch for bigger unimog size wheels.

Once you see the next single cab completed , the overhang won't appear nearly as extreme.

Regards
John.

ahhhhh got it. That makes sense. Looking forward to single cab pics.

We need to have a completely different floor mould for the LHD version and one or two other small moulds but otherwise all the parts are common for both LHD and RHD.
Regards John

What is LHD and RHD?

Also what is the weight of the finished out camper? Just the camper, not vehicle etc.

Is any info available regarding pricing and availability in the US?

Hi John,
Well done!!! Thank you for leaving plenty of 'white space' on the exterior for me to adhere my personal name submittal for the GW:ylsmoke: Can't wait to see the hard top LHD version! When you change the entry point for LHD can I assume that the bathroom will stay put and not be a walk through area? Also, will the rear spare tire lift/rack be able to be modified to carry any additional load (i.e. Jerry cans, motorcycle) Thank you and please keep the pics coming. Best regards, Dean

Sorry. Haven't done the math on that yet but will be considerably lighter than any of our earlier models .... this module has a composite subframe. All our earlier models had a steel subframe. Infused vinyl ester panel is typically a much lighter for the same strength than a hand laid polyester panel too.

Availability and pricing of the North American model will be a question for Sportsmobile West but I can still say that there is no news on that yet. We are still working on the new LHD moulds and parts but they are very close. We've already made design improvements to our RHD moulds and these are now being implemented in the LHD moulds which delayed us even more...... But we want it right from day 1 of production...... Part of the reason for this album is to gauge feedback and public opinion on the prototype....who better to criticise than this audience!!!

Hi Dean....thanks.

No.....the interior is mirrored. So we have a new LHD floor and new LHD toilet cubicle with the entry located on the RHS of the truck . All other parts swap over to the opposite side or like the dinette and bed they are not effected........and yes.We are very keen to see the hardtop too!!!

There is a 2" receiver and points on the rear bar that would support a lightweight bike rack but it would be outboard a fair way due to the departure angle. I wouldn't go swinging my V-Strom back there but a Madass might be OK. .... this isn't something that we are planning to offer at this point but it would be possible for someone with fab skills.

What is this hard top you are referring to? A hard rising top without the soft sides or permanent raised roof?

Some nice concepts in the overall design in this rig, I do like the drawer fridge idea, let us know how you find that, also like the toilet situation in there, hidden away when not needed.

Yes. A permanent raised roof so the result will be something worthy to replace our 10 year old Recon model and looks more like it too.

When we first sat down to begin this project 2 years ago, we looked long and hard at design that could incorporate a lifting a roof with solid panel sides....."Soenke - style"..... but there was simply no successful concept we could foresee that would include the pass-through into the truck cabin. Now we realise that some folk may not see the pass-through as a neccessary requirement but once our existing customers have it, most say they wouldn't be without it ....so we rated the pass-through high on the mandatory features list.

Yves...thank you for your comments. Regards John

As a long time EarthCruiser fan, I have to say that this rig has replaced that machine in my heart. My only concern is if the price is way higher..... When can we expect to see one in the USA?

Would be nice to at least have the option of a storage space for a small moto, like a small garage space. As an option....

You asked for it. ;)

My opinions regarding the US market.

Spare tires and lift. A waste for the US market. Heck most of our SUV's never get off the pavement. I really can't envision the majority of purchasers needing built in dual spares. Looks cool, makes the rig look “mean” but not really needed. Put one spare wherever you can fit it and call it good.

Too me putting an awning on the rear and replacing the spare tire carrier with an outdoor kitchen would be idea.

It's hard to tell from the pictures but if the awnings are recessed when stowed that would be very nice.
