b16gsr 2021 Ram 3500 HO build thread

Been lurking way too long so I decided to make a thread. I ordered my truck in October of 2020 and it arrived to the dealer March 12, 2021. I ordered pretty specifically the truck I wanted and had the time to wait so no big deal.

Wanted the mega cab and Longhorn package for the interior and lighting package. I also wanted the HO/Aisin combo. I was very specific with the dealership that I didn’t want them to wash it or unwrap any of it. They had never sold a vehicle that way.

The day it came in I already had some suspension parts and tires and wheels. It was only a matter of time.

I had already picked up several parts and was waiting patiently to install them.

-Bilstien 5100 leveling kit with matching rear shocks
-20” Ultra Hunter wheels with 35” Nitto Ridge Grapplers (thought this was a good idea, more on that later)
-BAK Industries Revolver tonneau cover
-WeatherTech front and rear floor liners
-wrap the grill(paintable parts were unavailable to purchase due to covid)

Then I saw the thread that @GPurcell01 started here:

And the pics of that truck sold me. That is when I decide it was time to change the truck. So this winter I took it back apart sold the 20s and ordered some parts.

I added the following:

-18” Method Race Wheels Grid custom coated with OMF simulated bead rings and 37x13.50 Nitto Ridge Grapplers
-Synergy Manufacturing steering brace
-Bilstien dual steering stabilizer
-Airlift 5000 air bags

followed the trimming that he suggested in the other thread and it came out perfect.

I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out. It has a little rubbing on the plastic which I expected as the Bilstien is only a 2.5" kit. Still turns full lock to lock, no major rubbing. I am going to add a sway bar at some point to finish it all up, as well as a Titan 50 gallon transfer tank. I use the truck to tow my race trailer mainly and wanted to make sure it was setup perfect for this.

Those 37x13;50’s are a big heavy tire, you may regret that espically towing allot. I see steering parts (tie rod and drag link) along with a regear in your future if you stick with that setup for awhile. Been there done that with a ram 3500 CTD HO with the Aisin trans. Nice truck BTW.

Looking good! Personally no regrets towing. 3.73's do a pretty good job. Just bump your pressures up and you're good to go.

Method wheels are a great choice. 37's seem a little big for towing.
But, looks great.

Thank you. I had the 35s on it and the gearing wasn't quite right for the speed I like to run(72 mph) on the highway. This should help that. The Cummins HO/Aisin has all the guts it needs to tow.

As I said above should be ok. Car and trailer loaded is only about 8,500 lbs. Which is nearly half of the max trailer weight rating.

Thank you for all of the input on your truck build, I really appreciate it. What tire pressures are you running? Loaded and unloaded? I know the Nittos max pressure at 50 for full towing capacity.

It’s not about the torque, it’s the rpms and constant downshifting, my truck had 3:42 gears, 4:30 put it in the perfect rpm range. I bet after time you will agree.

Im running 37’s on mine with factory 3.73’s and it tows nicely. I run high 30’s on tire pressures for unloaded daily driving and I bump up to 50psi when towing.

Very good looking truck!

Now can we hear more about the B16 swapped GSR? When are you starting the build thread on that?

Of course! Since mine are E rated I have a little more wiggle room with pressures.

With that being said,

Unloaded - 50 front and 30 rear
Loaded - 50 front and 50 rear

With those pressures, truck rides like a dream and I have a good contact patch for even tire wearing.

Interesting thoughts. With the 35s it was not enough and I felt like the motor was running too many RPMs. Trip in 2 weeks to see how she does.

Thank you. That is my hope. I will for sure try the pressures.

Thank you. b16gsr has been my handle for the better part of 20 years, I have owned several GS-Rs and a couple of TypeRs. BUT currently don’t have one. The 911 won out.

Thank you. I forget you have 17”.
