i have an old garmin gps III plus.
the backlighting doesn't work anymore.

Hey Sven, call Garmin (1-800-800-1020 - Monday - Friday: 8 am - 7 pm CST), their tech guys love hearing stories about their vintage units and will help you sort it out. A friend gave me a GPS 12XL and they got me going with all the upgrades (software), manual, and a USB to COM cable.
