Well parts arrived for what I thought was the issue, so I decided to rip into the rear end.

And it turns out there's quite a bit more going on than what I had hoped. So I found a shop that does differential work because I know my limits and that's one of them.

No pictures of the metal shavings, as I was too pissed off to care about that.
So have they told you the issue yet? Or still waiting on the rebuild there to get the full story?

I genuinely thought it was just the axle bearings, but I have a reasonable belief that its the pinion bearing. I found a shop thats willing to install the parts I already bought and has a differential specialist on the staff so I'm going with that.

I've done plenty of diff fluid services, and this one was bad.

Also, seriously no new Raptor for at least a little while longer. I really want to get an older truck as a project, undecided on what exactly though. And save for a boat.

I completely get that!!! And same! My wife will get the next "new" vehicle. And she wants a 30 to 40yr old Wagoner or Land Cruiser restored. So I'm basically in the same boat.

My short list would be Range Rover Classic, Land Rover Defender 90, Land Rover D2 (because its like an ex who is crazy but does some wild things when you want them too), OJ era Bronco, First Gen Explorer SAS, 9th Gen F150 (1992-1997), 7.3PS F250.... J80 Land Cruiser, LJ Wrangler.... K5 or K10 blazer. I have different ideas for all of them, but my two favorite ideas are a RRC with a big new engine in it and some 37s. or a prerunner 9th Gen F150.

New cars my list is basically Raptor maybe Bronco. The Gladiator is kind of cool too, but it fails at being a truck and a Jeep but its kind of cool still.

I'm getting ready to head out... So I will reply with my advice for poor financial health tomorrow.

Since I'm in the axle doing some work I decided I wanted to change out the diff cover. I still have the mag hytec bro style cover, and while it was fine enough I never really liked the look of it. I got it because its thicker than stock and had more fluid capacity which at the time I thought would be awesome, but after that Gale Banks hit piece (which we discussed earlier in this very thread) I kept having the idea bang around my head to change it out but never had the need, so I saw my chance and took it.

I ended up getting the Spicer 9.75 cover as the SVT branded one is about 100 bucks more. I can probably find a sticker for a lot less to put over the spicer branding for less than that if I so chose. No ETA on repairs, but I'm working some small projects in the mean time.
