Barn Door for JK factory hardtops

I've been experimenting a bit more with the Rubican containers on the LJ. Notice anything different in this photo?

I installed a spigot in the cap so water can be dispensed without removing the container from the mount.

The spigot was about 5 bucks on eBay with free shipping.

The spigot works when there's cargo on the rack too, I just rotate it so it points down.

BTW I've been having email issues for the past 24 hours, so if you've tried to send me an email and I haven't responded it's probably because I didn't receive your email. I'm not 100% sure everything's resolved yet, hopefully will be soon.

Nicely done!

Glad I was able to help you realize something you've wanted since 2014 :).

How heavy are the loads you plan to carry in the basket?

Should be less then a spare tire. Heaviest thing will be the food cooler and that will be centered and wont always be up there. Will be carrying a strap D rings, an ax bow saw and shovel, and first aid kit. I need to dig my rafting stuff out of the snow to find my cooking gear. I plan on a Action Packer with a catering stove, a cast iron pan, cutlery, basically a small kitchen.

Put the Packer and cans up there to measure for the cooler.

Im short by about an inch for the cooler. If I remove the upper rail I can move the Packer and cans out and should have enough room for my old ***** Coleman cooler.

those side supports/ ribs connecting the top and bottom rails look to only be riveted on, why not drill them out, shorten the supports/ribs and put the rail back on? keep what you've wanted so long looking good?

you'd just want to turn your ammo cans around so the hinge is against the rail

Would the space situation be eased if you moved one of the ammo cans under the rack?

The ammo can tray is available, it could bolt to one or more of the brackets.

That's exactly what I did when I resized the same rack to use on the prototype Overland Rack. Check the photo below, the top and bottom rails are much closer together than on AKPostal's rack.

Got the production Storegate storage compartment/trail table installed on the JK tailgate. A little trimming for the Safari Cab barn door stakes was required, but that only took a few minutes.

I had a preproduction Storegate installed until I installed the Safari Cab, but I took that off when I put the barn door stakes in place, I figured I'd wait until I received a production Storegate and I'd do the trimming on that one to fit with the stakes.

Just wondering if you've realized this @jeff.. but closing the tail gate with the storegate attached.. it seems to very close and maybe even obstructing the speak.

as this would only effect later wranglers that have this speaker set up. Granted I would have removed the speak long ago anyway. Wouldn't it be hard to hear any music in a wrangler with a soft top?. adding the obstruction only lessens the sound

It wouldn't be hard to sew something like that. Are there fire grates out there that are the right size to fit in a spare cover? I don't know much about fire grates.

I did a quick concept sketch for you, is this what you're thinking? :)

Sorry been in the woods unconnected from the world......Making Maple Syrup. Yeah that would be nice, the grate is always black and a little messy. I like it!

It's not a problem, for several reasons. The photo below was taken a while back when with a pre-production Storegate installed (I made the one in the photo) and shows that the Storegate isn't in front of enough of the speaker to affect the sound much even if it were a normal speaker plus it's an inch away anyway (and the production Storegate is slightly narrower, I haven't measured but it's probably 1 1/2-2 inches away from the speaker), but most importantly remember it's a subwoofer - subwoofers are as much about feel as they are about sound, which is why they can be installed in hidden and obscured places. It's common in other vehicles for subwoofers to be installed in hidden places, like under a seat. It's also not uncommon to put a subwoofer under the seats of a JK, if you do a google search on the idea you'll find quite a few threads on the subject.
