Barn Door for JK factory hardtops

@Jeff is it possible to reinforce the fender as to allow the jerry can mount to be mounted within the fender and lower of the jeep as with the Africa concept or is there away to alter the current plastic fender design to achieve the lower can within a pocket.

It just dawned on me that you still have the inner fender liners in place. :)
What did you need to do to use them?

I could have used one of the many aftermarket options out there or made new fiberglass ones, but I thought a zero-cost reuse of the factory inners was a better plan. A little trimming with a utility knife and some slight reshaping in two places with a heat gun was all that was required, it wasn't very difficult.

I posted this photo the other day showing the inners:

I just looked up the old Africa concept- it kind of looks to me like a custom shaped can

The dimensions and space just don't work out. You can ponder the simulation below and see if you can come up with a good way to do it, but the distance between the door hinge line and the back of the wheel arch is just too small to fit a jerry can. If you modified the fender so that the jerry can could fit behind it, it would be so far forward the tire would hit it.

It is, they cut an angle off the front of it. Not only that, they secured it to where it's mounted with bolts through the bottom of the can, so if they did try to put gas in it, it would leak. I guess that's ok on a concept car :).

Today UPS delivered a dozen production Tactical Spare Covers for me to transport to Easter Jeep Safari. I couldn't resist trying one of the 32's on my JK (they sent me 32's and 35's). They're a little wrinkled from being in the box, but the fit is absolutely perfect. The Coyote color is also perfect, and also goes very well with the Spice color of my hardtop.

The sewing company did a really nice job with these.

They also sent me some in black and olive drab but I haven't taken those out of the box yet.

The price point on those are $100 right? I am game for one of those in black. My current STTs are bigger then 32 but smaller then 33s, Im hoping the new STT Pros Im waiting on are the same, will the cover for a 32 fit a 32.5ish tire?

ETA: The company making the sliding windows, are they sold in pairs or is a drivers side only available? If I put my spare on the passenger roll bar I wont need a slider there.

Yes, the company tells me they'll come out at $99.99. Like all tire covers there's a range of tires each size will fit well, so these "32's" I would think would fit up to something a little larger than a 33 pretty well; the 35's would take over from there.

Good deal, I just called the place I ordered my tires and I should have them installed Friday. Hopefully all my rack parts will be here by then as well, I even bought a new drill. Gotta love new tool day.

@Jeff not to rain on your parade, but your tire cover looks cheaply made and not very durable.. As a seamstress myself, I just see a few flaws in the fabric used for this application. I look forward to seeing a long haul test on this design and hope to see improvements in the next redesign of your cover. Not saying the cover should be bullet proof.. but even designing the cover out of Kevlar would have offered the buyer something more.

One of the new products that showed up the other day is the JKU inner fender ammo can holder/Molle panel. I got them installed on both sides this morning.

I'm in the habit of carrying a spare battery on the trail; in the JKU I'll could carry it here:

The other thing that was delivered was a Storegate, but because of the barn door I'll have to trim it a little to clear the barn door supports so I won't have time to install that today.

All the big parts for my rack are here. I just need to pick up the nuts and bolts tomorrow and put it together over the weekend.
