Before and After Shots-- How your Vehicle has Evolved...

Only a two wheel drive but has taken me everywhere.

This is impressive. I have heard of people lifting their 4X2 and always wanted to see before and after pics and here their experiences.

Glad to see yours. A raised 4X2 that dares to go into the wild and dirt road.

Keep it up. I might do my Armada same way.

If you do I recommend talking to Greg at PRG. http://www.prgproducts.com/

When traveling offroad in 2wd, bring a shovel and a tow rope, you will get stuck.

Or better yet, know your limitations and avoid getting stuck. But, being a realist, do indeed have a means of self recovery.

One of these days I'll calculate the miles I've spent in 2wd vs 4wd and graph the locations and terrain type in which 4x4 was required. We did 3400 miles thru the Rockies recently and only used 4wd (and low range) to conquer Imogene and Engineer passes. Engineer needed 4x4 because of the thin layer of ice on the last 1000ft and Imogene due to the steepness and loose rocks. Between the two, that was about 40 miles of the trip. We even traveled about 120 miles in Wyoming on muddy roads, in 2wd. I've had plenty of other experiences, but those are fresh in mind. I suppose its safe to say, when you need four wheel drive... you actually NEED it.

As far back as I could find

Having a 24 year old vehicle and the original owner, I'm having a hard time finding a picture of it when I first bought it as a new 1990 Cherokee XJ.

I don't think digital photography had made it's way into my life back then.

Here is as far back as I could find and even then it has a 3" lift, Warn Bumper and winch and ARB front and rear, but it was still considered mild with 31" tires. But it was also some of the funniest times I could remember as I started pushing mine and the vehicles limits:

Here it is most recently with too many modifications to list:

You own your car for 24 years? Dealerships do hate you. Congrats, Sir. Keep it up. It looks rock solid. So, after its 24 years, how many miles on odometer?

@LaOutbackTrail
Thanks a lot for all the info.

Only 152,000. At 94,000 it became a dedicated off road vehicle, It's hard to believe I have done over 50,000 miles of off road trips. There is very little left of a stock Cherokee there now. The dealers may hate me but the after market guys love me!

Explorer1, such a nice rig you have there. Kudos to you for owning it for so long.

Can you post some more pics of the rear tire carrier setup along with tubing that goes to the rack?

It transfers the weight to the internal roll cage and off of the thin drip rail on the roof. It is also removable, along with the gas can carrier:

I used to have a white XJ...now I miss it. I really like how you handled the rear fender openings. They are tricky to do right.
