Bench seat that folds into a bed?

Beautiful! That's exactly what i was talking about. There are drawings too, great!

I wouldn't mind finding somebody selling just a "hinge kit" for this, so i could build the rest of it myself. Might try building the whole thing though. This seems like an ideal design for me, because i can have the bench be a hinged lid to storage underneath, that can be accessed in either configuration (couch or bed).

Also found the patent for the rollover couch if somebody wants to design one. http://www.freepatentsonline.com/4625347.html

another option might be getting a cheap metal-framed futon on craigslist and cutting a section out of the middle to narrow it up a bit. Then get some big flats of foam for mattress.

check out that hinge system. That is perfect, and it is the same as what dhally posted (i think). I PM'd the owner of those pictures to ask where he sourced the hinges.

Troy,

These are the exact hinges I'm looking for as well. Please let us know if you find out where you can source them! :victory:

I think Van Specialties in Lake Oswego, Oregon may be able to provide the hinges. They told me they build their own rollover sofa/beds so they must have access to the hinges.

They never responded to email, but i called on tuesday. They do have the hardware, but they won't sell hardware alone. They will sell a complete sofa bed assembly... for $1,500. The guy i spoke to was courteous and helpful, and i'm sure if i was a millionaire they'd be a good company to work with, but man, $1,500 for a sofa bed? Pretty crazy if you ask me.

I told him that was way out of my price range, and asked if he had any other ideas for me. He took my information and said he'd get in touch if he came up with something.

Also of note: He said that he can no longer find a source for the roll-over hardware, and that he has 20 or 30 kits in stock now. He wasn't sure if or where he would be able to source more once those were gone. He wasn't certain why they seemed to not be available anymore.

Those brackets look super simple. I'm sure they would be easy to reproduce from the measurements. Anyone have a set that is willing to measure, or send to get measured?

Unless the patent was renewed, it has expired already.
