The next generation of Dreamtime will hit dealers in January. I preordered two for my wife and me. The challenge with the original Dreamtime was the packed size - huge. The new version will be much smaller without sacrificing thickness.

The one really nice thing about the Cosmo with Pillow Top is the type of perforated open-cell foam used in the pillow top. In warm temps it makes for a much more comfortable, breathable sleeping surface. The brushed polyester top also wicks moisture for really comfy hot weather sleep. That's far superior to the other pads in this category. That's also before we mention the Cosmo's built in foot pump. Score one more for Nemo. that's a sweet setup.

Glad to see a vote for the Nemo Air/Pillow Top. My local camp outfitter carries this one, and I've had a chance to test it - comfy for sure. The Nemo Fillo is the closest thing I've been able to find to my pillows at home (http://www.nemoequipment.com/nemo2012-filo-pillow) and using one of these is what got me looking at the Cosmo. It's up there in price with the Exped, but does have some advantages on paper (weight & pack size). The one piece of info I was not able to find was the R-Value (Exped is 9.5, Dream Time is 9.0). Any warmth concerns with the Cosmo vs. the other two?

ditto the things Flounder said about the nemo :)

we have that nemo pillow and a REI one and a thermarest model each family member picked them out we used to bring our regular pillows :) ahhh I kinda miss my trailer :)
kids picked out REI models and wife likes the thermarest one

but only downside to the nemo pillow is the air can make it feel a bit rolly ? like your head is heavy enough it displaces the air quickly unlike a pad where your whole body evens it out ? since the rei and thermarest are solid material they do not do that ? but the rei is to soft for me and my head bottoms out quickly and the thermarest is to thick feeling not sure how to write what I mean but you kinda get a rolly feeling if that makes sense but I also like the pack size the comfort the straps to put more stuff in and find I put very little air in it as I like a think pillow
in some ways the nemo with just a touch of air and a fleece folded up shoved in the bungies is super comfy also
I think no pack pillow will match a nice home one :) but I do like the nemo more than other family members and any other pillow we tried
I do like how the big agness has pillow pockets the nemo model I have is to big but I do not loose my pillow ? the kids on the other hand did before so now the rei ones fit in the pocket and kids have their pillow in the morning

I don't have any personal experience with the pads you're inquiring about, however I'll cast a second vote for Paco Pads from Jacks Plastic Welding in Aztec, NM. I've had their 3" pad for going on 5 years now with zero complaints. Durable, comfortable, durable, and...er...durable. It's made out of the same material that they construct whitewater rafts out of, with welded seams (no glue to delaminate). My pad has two valves, and rolls up to about 8-10 inches in diameter. The newer ones, also have two valves, and also come with corner reinforcements, as that's where they usually wear out. A couple years ago, I also found a fleece "sleeping bag liner" at K-Mart that fits the pad perfectly for cooler weather trips. Hope that helps (or muddies the water)

Cheers,
West

Not to throw a wrench in your machine, but I'll add something else to consider.

I've got two each of these in the 25 x 78 flavor:

Thermarest Luxury

Big Agnes Sleeping Giant

I like having the thermarest seperate from the memory foam. I think I have more versatility than a permanently affixed setup. I can also say after 25+ years camping I've never had a more comfortable set up.

I strap them together with this: Exped Coupler Kit and stuff the whole works into this: Dream Island. My bag is the older, navy blue version.

Double wide bag keeps the lady happy, and the air/memory foam keeps my 260+ pound frame and joints happy.

I agree, and that's another plus for the Cosmo Air. The memory foam and air mattress separate and it appears the air mattress by itself is a decent backpacking pad. I looked at the above option a few months back thinking Big Agnes might make a 20" version to fit my base camp pad. They do not, but that was a blessing in disguise because the base camp pad needs more than memory foam to be considered a viable solution. My only gripe with Big Agnes was the slick material, but maybe that was just the pillow which I bought but ended up exchanging for the Fillo. I really like the microfiber cover Nemo uses on the Cosmo and Fillo.

Yep, It is pretty darn slick. I haven't really had to address that since the BA sleeping bag is designed to hold the pad in place. I may have to look into a Fillo!

We have a pair of the Thermarest Dreamtime matts, and they are very comfy. They are also quite bulky when rolled up, as I suspect any of the similar ~3" or so thick matts are, so make sure you have room for them.

that is the cool thing about the nemos IMHO more comfy than the dreamtime but we can fit 3 of them in the space one dreamtime took up :)
and the built in pumps make it quite quick to sleep if ya want and control the firmness etc..

part of selling our trailer was finding out that bulky things really matter big time ! when we had the trailer we were OK with larger pads that stayed in the RTT as additional padding or extra chairs that did not fold as small etc.
having plenty of water all the time etc.. these days every inch counts !

What other air/foam pads have you used Scott just as a comparison?

I have the 3.5in REI air/foam pads and while I "like" them and I "love" how REI backs up their gear I would be very interested in upgrading my Suburbans sleep inside setup as I am getting older and am a side sleeper.

In the world of high comfort pads, it would be wise to add the Thermarest Luxury Map to the list. Few know this, but Thermarest (Cascade Designs) is the largest manufacturer of foam in the US. They've not only made all of their foam and foam-filled pads here in the US for outdoor enthusiasts, they make a massive amount of foam matresses for the medical industry. They have developed foams and manufacturing processes to keep bed-ridden patients as comfy as possible. They invented a process called "Body Mapping" that allows them to die-cut holes in the pad in paterns that reduce pressure points at the hips, shoulders, feet, etc. This was designed for bed-ridden patients, but works great for weary travelers. It helps the sleeper stay centered on the pad and permits higher inflation to keep you off the ground, but provides nice cushy spots where you need it most. The die-cut holes are even cut at a 45 degree angle to reduce the tendancy for cold air to reach virtically through the pad to your body.

A couple questions for you NEMO Cosmo owners. The Cosmo does not have an r-value specified for thermal insulation, so that makes it hard to compare with the thermarest or other brands. Has anyone used the Cosmo on the cold hard ground? If so in what temps? Also, does it really pack down to 13x9 like the specs state? Pad and foam?

Thanks.
