Better than OEM tie rod ends and suspension bushings?

Dan ,
Yes brettstruck are good to deal with , I get Isuzu stuff sent down to Victoria from them. Easy to deal with.
John.

I just placed an order with them for the bushings I need - was better than any US option I could find.

I got my order from Brett's Truck today, not bad to get an order from Australia delivered to the US east coast in under a week. I hadn't realized how quick the shipping was, will definitely be ordering Fuso stuff from Australia more in the future.

Okay next question, the boots on my drag link are torn / cracked. Anyone have a spec for replacement boots? Fuso sells the assembly as a complete unit (MK382623) but that seems a bit extreme when it is only the rubber that has cracked.

Hmm, I'm in a bit of a pickle. My pickle fork broke trying to get the tie rod to pop loose. :(

Do I just need a less-crappy pickle fork or is there a better way?

It sometimes works to use a long pry device to put pressure on the joint and then strike the outside with a small sledgehammer. I've separated many ball joints this way. Usually takes three or four strikes. Probably would also work to use an air hammer instead of a sledge.

I've soaked it with PB Blaster, I'll try it again in the morning!

In my experience, shock works better that pure force when it comes to unseating a taper. Having said that, using a hammer to unseat a ball joint has to be done with care and a bit of finesse. My preference is to use a copper faced soft hammer, as this is less likely to damage the part you are hitting. A normal soft face hammer is not really an option, as it negates the whole "shock" thing. Just be careful that you do not strike the boot, as this is something that is very easily damaged. Some downward force on the ball joint will also help, but that is sometimes a bit difficult if doing the job by yourself.

yup. There's a knack to it. Its about 48 years ago, cold UK winter day, outside on road, several hours of failing to separate a rusted in ball joint on a mini, interspersed every 20 minutes to warm hands inside. Neighbour, who happened to be a forklift mechanic, passed by and pleasantly asked if we were having a problem. He took one, very sharp, well placed, hit with a standard 2lb hammer. Ping. One of those techniques to aspire to! Definitely impact more important than force.

There is the jackscrew type remover. I have a M-B tool 000 589 44 33 00 what I think is made by Stahlwille, there are numerous others...
Whats better anyway since its kinda creepy beating on steering joints, wont damage rubberseals and who really likes hammering under a car to knock dirt in ones face anyway.

I have a standard el-cheapo remover that doesn't have anything to tie the two fingers together so it just spreads out.

My rubber seals are cracked (which is why I am pulling it apart) so not terribly worried about damaging them further.

I've smacked it pretty firmly with an 8 pound hammer, but I will give it another go in the morning after giving PB Blaster the night to work its magic.
