Wow, great job on the photos guys! You got some fantastic shots. I was very disappointed with the way the few shots I took turned out. I had what I thought was a great one of Richard that ended up blurry; doh! Guess I need to add a new camera to my growing list of must-have goodies. Hmm, which comes first: Nikon D40 or Engel 35? Choices, choices...

You guys are being too kind about my mad driving skillz. My wife was reading through this thread, and is convinced that I slipped you some cash to say that. :shakin:

Andrew, you've inspired me to get my kids out on the trail. If they're half as well-behaved as yours, we'll have a great time.

Man, seeing these pictures makes me wish I was back on the trail. Teotwaki, put me on the list for the next "Jimboree", too! :jumping:

Hey DesertBound, Blurry pics, no problem get a throw down digital like mine and go with the Engel! With Teotwaki's photo posting help anything is possible, just take lots of pics, three of them will turn out fine!

Gosh, I forgot to collect that money that your wife thinks is involved for the driving compliments, can I still have a check mailed? Post dated, two party not accepted thank you.

Kids on the trail, perhaps that could be the theme of the next trip?

Hey Guys,
Looks like a great trip I was bummed to bail out at the last minute. I guess w/ 3 kids one of them is bound to fall on their face right before you're supposed to do something fun....
See you at the next get together.
Cheers,
Paul

A few last notes from me on the Big Bear trip that may be of use to anyone considering a visit to the area.

1)The Big Bear Discovery Center located at 40971 North Shore Dr. is a great place to visit and has lots of information, from the Adventure Pass, camp fire permits, to free maps, all provided by some very nice folks.

2)The OHV trails are well marked with the forest service numbering system and there are numerous pullouts for passing and being passed by other groups.

3)In addition to the established campgrounds there are several campsites called “Yellow Post Campsites”. These sites, marked by a yellow post coincidently, offer camping that is not immediately next to another campsite. Yellow post sites do not have bathrooms and the ones that I saw did not have established fire rings. The Yellow Post sites must be claimed on a first come basis and there is a two week camping limit.

4)The surrounding communities have all kinds of services available, from auto parts stores to grocery stores, restaurants and more.

5)Hwy 38 is a very scenic drive and worth the extra few miles, I was surprised that in southern California there were stretches of forty plus miles between gas stations. With the highway reaching elevations of over 8000 feet with 6% grades and being mostly two lanes, I was also surprised at how fast some drivers were going, if traveling this highway watch out for drivers flat out ignoring the double yellow on blind curves.

My overall impression as a first time visitor to the area was wow; I never would have thought that something this nice was in such close proximity to Los Angeles.

rmarz, some good observations of the San Bernardino Mts! I've been going up there for years and every time I go up there is something new to see. I had never been to Butler Peak before, glad Jim had us go! Also like the theme of kids on the trail; seeing things though the eye's of a child rules! :victory:

I did that. The smallest I could get it was 748 mb for just Gold Moutntain. I'm limited to the Sony Vaio editing software, any thing else to do????
