Birds Of Prey

Yep, just stretching out and getting loose before he starts hunting for lizards. I'll have to see if I can catch one of those lizard meals.

I saw one catch a sparrow once - it was one of the most amazing 'wild kingdom' moments I've experienced. Ran up on the sparrow while it was on the ground, leapt upon it as it tried to fly away, then proceeded to bash it repeatedly on the ground until tenderized.

Snagged this yesterday morning.

Shot from a bobbing boat in a tuff wind with a Canon 5D with a 400mm f/2.8 lens with a 1.4x extender on. I was amazed I snagged the shot since I was panning and bobbing at the same time

My friend told me I should make a motivational poster out of it that says

"Perspective - They're both headed in the same direction, it's just different outcomes for each"

Good gosh that is an amazing shot!

Last summer I had a red-tailed hawk fly over my truck here in CO with a freshly snagged rodent in his/her grasp.... the little paws were scurrying in mid-air.... the food chain in living color....

Then there was the time a few years back when while at a Toyota jamboree type of event (The Rising Sun Rally) a hawk flies over and drops the snake it just snagged on the crowd... people are scurrying to get away from the snake... the hawk is circling and diving to retrieve its lunch... crazy...

Thanks for the compliments and that Hawk/Snake story sounds hysterical!!

That's one sweet capture Pat. This time you got the wing tips. :sombrero:

I can't imagine getting the shot with that lens hand held off a moving boat. You da man. :wings:

Lens was on a Wimberley mounted on a monopod, but if you could seen through the viewfinder of the camera, I was getting dizzy by how fast everything was bobbing and moving.

The lens is so fast and sharp, that once I found the bird, it locked on and I started firing while panning. It's 75% lens, mixed with about 10% my skill, the rest was luck....HAHA!!

Meeting my Roadrunner buddy every morning is starting to become a daily ritual. Every morning he perches in a tree in my front yard and squawks until I come out. Once I get positioned under his tree he checks to make sure I'm ready and then leaps down to the ground and runs across the same driveway in the same direction every time. I think he's trying to help me practice.

The toe balance.

Thanks for the comments.

Pat, when I follow the Roadrunner he always heads into the desert around the back of the neighbor's house. I am guessing he is ticked at me for bothering him everyday and has bunch of his buddies back there waiting to jump me and peck my eyes out.:Wow1:

I'm not falling for it....I just let him go.

I snapped this photo a few days ago and when I showed it to my wife, she pointed out that it was actually two fish! I had thought it was just one big one. Quite the hungry Osprey!!

Reviving an Old Thread after snapping a few pics of a Falcon out on one of the local islands

After letting me snap a few shots of it on the palm tree stump, it flew away and we watched where it landed. Amazing how camouflaged it is in its natural surroundings

All images taken with a Canon 30D with a Canon 400 f/2.8 IS with a Sigma 1.4 extender on it. Hand held from the moving boat! That lens rocks!!
