bombproof mount for a handheld magellan

I am looking at mounting my magellan sporttrak pro in my taco, is there any cool mounts other than the suction type, I need it to rotate on an arm that extends toward the driver.

My Meridian mounts with a RAM mount, it is the suction variety, but you can get other bases that screw to the dash, or floor, or use double-sided tape. I've got the windshield suction base and the 5 inch arm. It brings the Meridian just over the edge of the dash so it can be swung around to my view or the copilots. It's nice, doesn't fall off like my ebay cheapy did, but it's a bit pricey at 50-60ish dollars (old brain can't remember how much exactly)

If you already have a cradle for it (you can remove the cradle from the suction cup mount if you already have it) or buy one, you can probably adapt it to the vehicle specific mount made by Pro-Fit.

Pro-Fit makes mounts for just about all makes/models. I learned about them back in the day when I sold car phones that had to be installed in the vehicle.

Essentially what this company does is take apart the dash of each vehicle and then they figure out how to bend a plate to fit existing bolts that are part of the dash.

For mine, I simply removed the cover plate, removed three bolts, then slipped the mount in there, put the bolts back and snapped the cover plate back into place. This took about 20 minutes. It actually took longer to decide how to adapt the cradle to the mount (lining up, drilling, etc.)

Overall, not to bad and, at least for my vehicle, it's in an excellent spot for the driver to view it.

I took the liberty of locating the part you need--it's on this page here.

Sorry, I don't have a picture handy, but think of a flat plate extruding from the passenger side of your radio or air conditioning, then it's bent at about 30-45 degrees so that the driver can see it from an optimum angle.

That's really all it is, but it's a good fit and in the right spot.

Here's a pic of the mount

Here's a link to the RAM provided option.

Good Luck!
