Thank you for the compliments guys! It's a priority of mine to enjoy this adventure stuff with the family as much as possible. Sure it's cool to enjoy it solo or just with buddies, but it's important to me to do what I can to help build the next generation of 'adventurers' or at least give them a desire to get out and explore. I hope my kids have a love for the outdoors and have memories that last a lifetime from these trips. I know the trips I took with my dad when I was young helped to shape my desire for getting out into the outdoors.

The Day 4 pics are from the switchbacks on the Burr Trail as it drops down toward the Notom Bullfrog road that goes north through Capital Reef NP or south to Bullfrog marina at Lake Powell.

You have a great eye for composition and/or post processing.

I've been focusing more lately on video, your shots make me want to leave the XHA1 more in the truck and bring out the D800 a little more! I've also tried to convince my wife to try the roof-top tent/off-road trailer combo, but I haven't won that battle yet. We drive to our Utah adventures Caravan style: Me in the truck and trailer (with kids) and my wife finally enjoying a few ours of quiet just behind in the Disco..

+1 about bringing the kids along, what you're doing is indelible to them, but I don't have to tell you that. And your photos are inspiring. Thank you.

Beautiful pictures, cool setups, and what a great way to spend a family vacation. Your kids will always remember these kinds of trips as special.

Thanks for sharing!

I appreciate the comments and compliments. Speaking of taking the kids...I'll be writing an article for the October issue of TCT Magazine that is focused on prepping and surviving a family overland trip. I think there really is no excuse to not take wives and kids along on trips like these regardless of age. I have some tips to make it more comfortable particularly for wives/girlfriends since that is the bigger challenge in many cases. But some of the same things apply to kids. I'll share some of my ideas here once the article is published.

Adam awesome pics of an awesome trip! I didn't see any pics of the Strike Valley Overlook though. Looks like you came up the switchbacks headed toward Boulder (?). Just after the top of the switchbacks turn north into Muley Twist Canyon for 2 miles, then you find a NP marker for the "parking lot" (4wd or rough 2wd). 30 minute hike up the Waterpocket Fold and you get a view of this:

Thanks for the memories! Might swing through there next month again. Amazing area.

My wife would beg to differ. (lol) She swears she hates camping. I make it very comfortable for her and we always have a great time, see incredible sites that none of her friends ever see. She's athletic and not a high maintenance chick (at least not more then usual). We seriously don't fight, but she pouts when I announce our trips and wants nothing to do with the planning, and does the girl thing like she's not interested even along the way on the trips. Chicks I work with think my trips are cool, as I think they're married to guys that sit on the couch a lot. I really plan our trips out, and it includes a B&B or nice place to clean up along the way. I'll give her the no bathroom part as it's not as easy as for us guys... And she hates my turbo toilet.

But it wears on me. It's going to someday force me into an RV over my Jeep and expo trailer. (sigh)

Sorry, not highjack your thread. :)

Great trip and scenery! I love the southwest, there are a great many places to go. I also like the picture of your kids looking afar, eldest son pointing off in the distance. I too have 3, 2 boys and the youngest a girl, and your pictures reminded me of our road trips and car camping, especially in the southwest, going sand surfing at White Sands NM, Grand Canyon North Rim, Carlsbad, etc. We were in a sedan then, with a dome tent. Great lifetime memories. Alas, my kids are now 31, 29 and 27. That is great that you're out there out in the beautiful countryside with them. You're raising them right! :D

Thanks. I actually have 4 kids my oldest isn't in any of the posted pics. He's almost 15 and we're starting to plan a 4x4 build for him.

I did several trips with my father, he would alternate between me or my brother for fishing trips. We had the family trips my mother would be along, she complained a bit about them but I think she did enjoy the trips as long as dad 1/2 of the cooking and clean up. That 'ol 62 Suburban was on it's third motor, second transmission and second rear axle when it was sold. All of the first trips were done in a '55 Pontiac.
Yeah, I remember those trips.
