Spent the weekend in Moab manning the Tepui Tents display we did at Gearheads on Mainstreet. Was a great day on Saturday and talked with a ton of people include a few from the forum and others. If any of you were ones that came by and said hello, thank you.
Since I wasn't in Moab to do any wheeling this time I made sure I at least took the scenic way to town on the way down on Friday. Was a nice little drive.

I need to zip on down to Moab for a weekend soon. Been awhile for me. Actually been since 2009 when I was down there with my own truck. I am due!

Cheers

I'll be back in Moab at the end of the month for Cruise Moab. I'll have a Tepui display set up at the vendor night during the event, if anyone wants to come check them out.

Just wanted to add to the many compliments on your cruiser. Looks great!! Any updates on the rising temps you are experiencing?

Nothing to report yet. I've been driving it to work this week and it's running at normal temps. It really only seems to heat up on long uphill grades. I need to do a bit more digging but the only thing left in the entire cooling system that isn't new now is the water pump. So that will be the next thing I look at.

This won't necessarily help your cooling issues, but something I thought I'd mention: I found a Aux. OEM fan that came on 2nd Gen 4Runners that had the "tow package" and installed it on my 80 series. I wired it to a manual switch and that little fan drastically helped bring my temps down on the trail. I paid like $40 for the fan. Something to consider for you (or others) who want some cooling help at slow speeds.

As always, the Cruiser looks great. I just love that roof rack.

Interesting. Thanks for the idea. I'm sure it could be helpful to someone, unfortunately my slow speed temps are just fine.......great actually.

Did you remove the steel bottom cover plate that's located immediately above the steering damper? That could affect airflow at higher speeds, while not affecting it significantly at lower speeds.

When I bought the truck in December it did not have that lower cover plate so there isn't one on the truck now. I'll look at replacing it but honestly I'm shocked that it would have that much effect.

I learned that through experience in a track driven 350Z. I never had overheating problems in that car, and on the one day that I drove it without the plastic undertray, the water temperarure needle moved near the beginning of the red zone. After that particular track day, I reinstalled the undertray, and I never saw that needle move past the dead zone again.

When the undertray is missing, air flows through the path of least resistance, and that may be below the radiator where there is an unobstructed opening. With that being said, I haven't even gone out to look at the 80 to see if leaving the plate off would allow air flow to deviate. It was just something I brought up from experience on another vehicle in a demanding environment.
