"Bruce" the 2014 Jeep JKUR Build Thread

Bruce needs to go there too. Overdue for an oil change. Do you all go by a mileage or when the computer tells you to? I'm sure the dealerships would love for us to do 3000mi change intervals. But I've gone about 7,000 and the computer still says 11% oil life.

I just go by the computer, depending on how hard you are pushing the JK the interval will change. I'm due as well, plus need to have the flaming heated mirror recall done!

Another option for those looking for sliders at roughly the same cost, are the ACE Engineering sliders that have a better mount then the Rubicon rails and can be used in conjunction with the factory Rubicon rails.

My friend has those and the Rubi rails. That's a lot of slider weight though and east a up a couple inches of clearance.

I have the Ace/Rubicon combo as well, and the clearance difference is minimal. I can tell you I would trust sliding around on the ACE one much than the factory or enhanced rails, they are just not as beefy.

FWIW:

I've dropped down a rock onto the passenger side rock rail, with no issues, other than loss of paint. They are pretty stout. I've managed to use every piece of armor on the Jeep so far...
If you watch the Jeep video of them running the stock 10A on the Rubicon for press day, there is a great shot of one of them slamming down on a rock pretty good, with no issues.

I took the Jeep in at about 4,400 miles after running Moab and Mojave Road. Had them do the Oil Change Service, tire rotation, and also change the dif' & T.C. fluid (get rid of the swarf from break-in).

To play devils advocate, they would probably edit out the shot where the product fails and caves in the rocker panel.

From the reports I've read, they're pretty strong. But you'd want something beefier for the Wayalife style wheeling. IMHO, That stuff is too nerve racking to enjoy.

Agreed. Rockcrawling is of no interest to me. Like I said before, driving 2 mph all day pounding over one pile of rocks and seeing the same landscape is boring and not fun. I want something to just protect if I belly it out on a trail.

I used to to use and hit my sliders all the time in my 100. But that's was because its rocket panel was very low and the sliders hung below that. If they weren't there I wouldn't have hit them.

That's why I wanted ones that wouldn't eliminate the JKURs superior rocker clearance. And I didn't want one that required drilling into the sheet metal. That doesn't seem like a good long term solution.

for what it is worth.. Ive never made contact with my sliders (regular Rubicon ones), and my jeep has seen a lot of off pavement use (though, like most of you, I'm not really into "rock crawling").

I really want the Rubicon X rails... but then they won't work with my MORE steps, which my wife really like.

Can't wait to see Bruce all grown up!

Thanks. He's getting there. At this rate he'll be the most built jeep on stock sized tires. These home improvements and wife mandated vacations are eating up all his lift and tire funds.

The rubicon rails are s little to high to be an ergonomic step anyway. But you might be able to drill some holes and mount the more step to the bottom

The Jeep's been at the dealer for 19hrs for an oil change and to track down this grinding noise/feeling from the front end when reversing and turning, like when parallel parking... I thought Jeep might have stepped up their service now that they sell $80k SUVs. But it seems as if our service expectations have surpassed the car brands we own. Seems like we need to get Lexus and Land Rovers next.

With the Grabars, I've been using the outer rail tube for a foot step. Just step on it sideways, so I don't scratch up the rockers. Works really well now that it's sitting up on 3" of lift and 35" tires.
The nice thing is I'm no longer sliding across the side bolster on the seat, so it should last longer. :)
I'd definitely want something else for sliders if I was doing front dig and pivots, but that would require a transfer case mod...

Hope they figure out the issue with the Jeep, and get it back to you quick.

They could t relocate the squeak and started throwing out shut about my lift. I have a spacer lift and airbags. And they were supposed to be looking for a gear grind in reverse, not a squeak. It's been a difficult day as far as dealing with service people. We had an electrician over today also.

So now to take it to the dealer by my office and see if they can find it.
