Is that top shelf simply riveted or does it have a weld holding it up there?

Only asking because looking at your stove up top sitting on it, if you could drill out the rivets and lower the top shelf a few inches, it looks like you could re-rivet it and be able to solve the issue with not being able to close the lid with the stove in there...Just wondering if that's do-able??

I was also wondering if you found two round aluminum poles that could attach to the fold out shelves and lock into inserts on the bottom of the sides that could help support the fold out shelves?

Again, just armchair quater backing, but ideas that popped in my head while reading through the thread

Those are all real good ideas. I had been thinking the opposite, and extending it upwards to fit the stove. It is all Rivets I believe.

In the end I'm likely to just leave it as is. The stove can ride on top, and I use the cubby hole for storage of long flat things like my griddle and cutting boards, and larger utensils.

Poles to prop up the shelves is a pretty good Idea. Something to think about for sure. I'm thinking I will just close the shelves and cook with the stove on top. That way I still have a space for the griddle, cutting board, ect.
