I've been looking for somethng like this, but has a BBQ grill too.
My Father in law has a Scotch Box, but they stop maying them 30 years ago. Looks like a tool box BBQ. It packs up nice and its lighter then the current cast iron version you see around.

Awsome ideas,I really like the washer tub on the pipe also on the cinder blocks. Want to bring something for the desert trip in March.

The many options discussed have different applications other than what I believe this thread originally targeted. While there are some great cooking grill options posted, many of these would not serve well as a fire pit. The washing machine tub is great for a big group, but then so is a 55 gallon drum with cut-outs. These are bulky and heavy and will not be easily transportable in most overland rigs. An ideal unit should be compact, lightweight, and durable. I do not believe there are many commercially-produced items that are ideal for this purpose. I would be curious to see if any enlightened person with metal fabrication skills has conquered this task. If so, please post pictures.
