Camping Lab awning is on its way!

I don't believe it, but I'm very excited...:wings:...About an awning!! haha!

I ordered the larger of the two sizes. Fernando was great to deal with on the phone and answered all my dumb questions.

Got an email that it should ship today.

It'll be great to have in the heat of a San Diego summer. My wife is very prone to getting overheated, though she is slight of build and
fairly in-shape (we joke that she has no sweat glands...haha), but also great when we make our sierra's trip this winter and our Lost
coast/Mendecino trip mid-winter 2010, to keep the rain off our heads.

I also have 3 small, white daughters that seem to have absolutely no Melanin in their skin, and consequently, burn
very easily, so it'll be great to have a big enough spot for them to spread out their toys and play...:sport_box...when we make
our bi-monthly trip to fiesta island.

Most importantly, is that I do about 7 shows building sets and props for my wife's high school drama program, which is very grassroots and
low budget, which means that my workshop is generally outside in the heat or rain. You can bet that I'm going to pull my jeep right next to the theatre to deploy the Uber-Awning on build days (about 40 per school year) come september. :ylsmoke:

I'll post up some pics when I get it mounted :)

Right on Brian.... awnings are great to escape the heat. They can also do very well for cover when rain starts to pour... i've taken cover many times.

Yay! Came back from dinner, and while unloading the babies, my wife said, "Well, Bri, there's your awning." I looked over expecting a playful smile, (since it was like 6pm when we left and 9pm at that moment) but she was motioning sleepily with her hand towards the porch. I looked over, angels sang, and sure enough, there it was...haha!

I had other things to do, but I did get it out of its shipping box to check for damage, and was thoroughly impressed with the thickness of the protective rubberized cover, and the stout looking aluminum mounting brace that runs the length of the back of the awning. Oh, and the zippers are huge, big heavy duty jobs with heavily sewn and reinforced ends.

The "screenprinted" logo...vinyl?...is nicely applied and adds just the right touch to the outside of your rig, without making it a rolling billboard.

-I'll post up some pics later today. :)

Also,I've got to figure out mounting now, to two thule bars, but hey thats the part I love to do!!

Any suggestions or pics of your mounting brackets would be great. I have a lot of bulk aluminum and steel so I'll likely just fab up my own, if I can't find something cheap/easy locally thats already fabbed.

Here is how mine is mounted to my round Yakima bars, you can do the same on Thules.

What's the weight of that awning unit?

shipping quote was 23lbs.

My perception is that its very light. I easily held it up to measure and adjust the mounting points, though I had my wife help me put the bolts through while holding an end, each. Very easy.

I think that there are certain parts of it, like where the velcro meets the fabric along the horizontal poles that could (and will be) reinforced, but the poles and guys are about exactly the size/weight they need to be, IMO.

Very nice. I was on the fence when I placed my last order, looks like I should have just ordered it.
