Captain Texas Anvil JKU build

I will be going out of town for a month for work but I am bringing the Jeep with me :)

Took a look at the top that my dad bought for me for a late birthday gift, love you dad BTW, and looks like it came from a 2010 or older JKU. It has the smaller back window which looks OK to me. I would have preferred a newer top but I am NOT complaining considering the deal we got on this one for its condition.

Will probably installed the soft top in July when I get back from work. Yay.

I thought about that too when I put an older top on my 2011. I don't see many soft tops on the roads, so when I did finally see one with the bigger back window, I was happy with my decision. I like the look of the smaller window better, and it doesn't restrict my view out the back.

So on the 3rd of June I got into my first real car accident. :(

Was following an F-150 on a backroad while the roads were slick from the rain. Rear ended them and Im legit surprised that the truck was able to drive. Their bed was bent up in a 15 degree angle toward the cab. Anyway everyone is safe and that is what is important.

Anyway the Jeep is still drivable and got me to my destination but it has some noticeable damage. My AEV bumper saved me big time, although without showing some damage. The crush cans are done for and my front license plate is trashed. The end of the bumpers of the passenger side is bend in a little and the crossmember under the bumper is bent. Also the alignment is off and steering needs an adjustment. Good news is that I can still get it back home after I am done with work in early July.

I will be providing photos on the crossmember but my question is is there anyway to fix the crossmember? Does anyone think that Jeep would fix it under warranty?

Neg. of the jeep fixing it under warranty. it is accident damage. that's for your insurance to fix. and I would say it can be fixed. If you put in a claim, might as well get the new bumper etc to take care of it.

Yep, nothing warrantiable about that, sorry... Call the insco and put in a claim. Usually your company will deal with a certain few shops in your area, find out who they are and go talk to them briefly ahead of time, rather than settling for the first shop, check out their history of work. Looks like it may have even tweaked the end of the frame from that picture, plus there will definitely be bent steering components. It should get inspected by a frame shop/body-collision shop, and a mechanic, but it's worthwhile to find someone who will work with you on the fact that your bumper is not stock, etc. You may be able to get them to put upgraded parts on as replacement items if you talk to them ahead of time, and depending on how stringent your insco is. Sucks, but as you said, the important part is everyone is ok.

I have already been in contact with Jones Jeeps about the issue and they said that AEV doesn't cover accidents. I am currently in talks to see if they can get the frame crossmember fixed or not.

I have taken a look at the steering components and they look all right. I truly believe it is just an alignment and a steering box adjustment. Or at least I hope so.

Of course they do not cover accidents. That's what you pay insurance for. I would contact the insurco and get them started on a claim. I think the jeep will need to go on the rack to get straight however.

Stuff doesn't just get "knocked out of alignment" if the wheel is crooked, something is bent, and driving it like that is likely to ruin your front tires. If nothing is bent in the steering, then the frame itself is bent.

I inspect accident vehicles on almost a weekly basis at work as a technician. :coffee:

Exactly right. The subframe is visually bent. So other crap is bent too I suspect. As I said, time to goto your insurance company. This is bout' to get expensive. Vehicles are meant to bend in accidents.

Got to drive the Jeep for an hour to Fredericksburg to see my mom and got it up to 74mph. Did great. Didn't death wobble or want to kill me.

I honestly believe that it just needs a serious alignment but other than that I think it is fine. Obviously the frame rail is going to be addressed and the bumper but I think the steering comments and front axle are fine thank god.
