CARB Cans suck...or: Good Hand Siphon Pumps?

So, all the spouts on every CARB compliant can that I have suck. They dont flow and they leak (you know what Im talking about) but I like the cans that I have so does anyone have experience with a good gasoline hand transfer pump and point me in its direction?

I second the Super Siphon. Easy to use, fast, no spilling and super cheap. Other companies make them but they're all the same. A rubber hose with a brass tip with a marble inside the tip. I bought mine for $7 at the Bass Pro Shop nd I've seen them as much as $15.

Awesome. Ive only ever seen those hand pump ones that move about 8z of fuel a pump. I was looking for something a little less labor intensive and this looks like the ticket. Thanks.

Ya, it's super easy to use. Just pump it up and down real fast while the brass end is submerged and once the gas starts flowing, let it go and it will do the rest. On one of my trips, I had guys borrowing my siphon even though they has nozzles. No one wanted to deal with the dumb nozzle.

They're great if you own a boat too.

Brass Pro Shops sells a siphon very similar to the Super Siphon, even down to the packaging. I was headed to the checkout with one, and noticed the difference, and put it back on the shelf.

No clue as to its quality, just do no like to be fooled.

I have the siphon from Bass Pro and it looks identical to the Super Siphon. For $7, I had nothing to lose. I use it all the time. It's just a hose with a brass fitting. Not much that can go wrong. As a matter of fact, I've been meaning to buy another one from there to keep as a spare.

I use Scepter MFC and MWC and use the Super Siphon as well; one each for fuel and water. Hose extends from my rear Jerry can carrier to the filler.

You can also get them locally at Harbor Freight.

FYI the springs and check mechanism is pretty easily removed from the CARB nozzles - then they just stick in the open position, and pour like any other gas can

How's that for an ExPo mod?

I made my own "super siphon" from a lenght of clear 5/8' vinyl tube and plastic "T' from the hardware store.
cut it about 2' from the end and inserted the T, then on the branch of the T connected another piece about a foot long. I pinch off the 2' piece, suck on the 1' piece then soon as I see the liquid coming down the tube I open the 2' and close the 1'.
I'm just a cheap SOB. lol

When I use the it for 5gal or 20L container it takes just a few minutes. I don't have the exact time, but it's quick. I timed it once, but my memory fails me. It can seem like a long time when you are holding the can or holding the tube in the can.

I've only had to use the siphons five or six times for water and gas cans so I don't have a ton of experience.
I use them for water and gas but of course have separate hoses for each.

I have a super siphon or safety siphon and a few of the cheap imitations that I found at my local Lowes.

I was having trouble getting it to the bottom of the can since it want's to roll back up in itself.
One method I've used is to straighten out a hanger or I guess you could use anything long and straight and clean. Then zip tie the super siphon to it so that you have a nice long rigid run that goes all the way to the bottom. I've also used a small hand clamp to hold it to the can lid but you must monitor it in case it slips out. I think it's better to hold it to reduce the chance of an "uh oh" moment.

In order to keep mine from curling up, I slide a piece of 24" PVC pipe over it that keeps it straight and allows to get the most fuel out. Since the PVC won't fit over the brass fitting, the PVC won't slip off and the weight of the PVC keeps it weighed down.

I actually think the curl of the Super Siphon helps get into a corner to get the last little bit of gas out. I tilt the can forward onto one corner, and put the SS in that corner, and it will get 99% of the gas out.

I just cut the big CARB piece off the end of my nozzle with a saw. Ta-day, a regular ole nozzle. Works fine on my lawnmower.
