I make fibreglass panels for race cars and save a lot of weight in the process. I don't use any steel for gusseting. But anyway...
But your race hoods are likely much larger than a Tacoma hood. You also probably use 4 hood pins, right? Could a non-reinforced fiberglass hood work long term with the OEM hinges and locking latch?
