CCW Pistol Recommendations

My favorite firearm for CC is my Sig Sauer P239 in .40 S&W. Is is small, barb free and narrow enough that it conceals nicely. The ergonomics and balance are great. It shoots more like a full size than a compact and it is also stupid reliable.

Just bought the Bersa .380 myself. Waiting the 10 day wait for pickup, Kye

10 Days? California is sure a screwed up state when it comes to guns ... Even before I got my permit it was about 1 hr and I was out the door and on the way to the range.

The bersa is oversized for a .380. The keltec is perfect. It needs a little TLC out the box (see the ktog.org site for the fluff and buff- there are a few spots that need to be polished). I can carry my keltec and 3 mags for less weight and better concealment than the bersa. A CCW weapon is only meant for use out to 7 yards.
Actually there are some small 9mm's that are about the same size and weight as that bersa!

I too have to occasionally for work go into neighborhoods and houses that I'd normally choose not to. The CCW's job is to get me back to my vehicle, period. Something heavier is stored there (shotgun usually).

Old fashioned

I have a Colt series 80 Officer's Model .45 ACP. It is very compact and makes a BIG hole. But I am sorta old fashioned about self defense, and am very familiar with Colt 1911 guns, so that is my choice.

Took my new Glock 21SF (45 cal) over to my friends Saturday to clean it before we go shooting perhaps next weekend.

He has the same gun, and he showed me how easy it is with his new holster to conceal a gun of this size.

I was going to get a smaller gun for concealment, but I think I can make this one work.

I like the Kimber. I was scoping out one of these:
Kimber Super Pro Carry. I really like the bobtail and the fishscale serrations on the slide and front strap. The Aluminum frame makes it light to hold. Every detail is well executed to my relatively inexperienced eye.

But, for some reason, I just like the action and feel of the Dan Wesson CBOB better. It's a bit heavier, but so smooth.... It doesn't hurt that it's $1k less expensive than the Kimber, though much harder to find (discontinued last year I think).

My wife just put one of these into the 10 day hold. We get it next Monday! Browning BDA 380
Sort of a classic, but such a great size. Just a bit larger than a Compact, and smaller than a Commander size, similar to a Sig P230. The traditional style polished bluing is really nice, and the walnut grips are just so much more pleasing than the newer plastic guns. My wife can shoot the .38 all day long, and seems to enjoy it. As a bonus, it fits in my hand too :)

For us, these are more less general purpose handguns. We won't be using ours as CCW's, because it's nearly impossible to get a permit here in SoCal...well, ever since the previous Sheriff was jailed for taking bribes and handing out CCW permits like thank you cards.

I love my diamond back db380 with laser, they also now have a 9mm.
They intially had some design flaws they fixed, mine works very nicely. A keltec designer spun off and helped start this company. It is basically a mini glock :)
