Thanks all...

Thanks all and esp Frenchie for being "jonny-on-the-spot" with the linky. I'm rolling the dice for 314.10 shipped!
I've got nothing but good stuff to say about their customer service. I have been having issues with my debit card thanks to Wachovia and Wells fargo merging and they helped me finish the purchase via the instant chat thingy... I can't even get my dang bank to do that for me! And since I'm in Iraq I do't have the call and talk option...
I'll post my thoughts on the unit when I get home and can play with it.
On a side note...do any of the other F/F travel covers fit these things? Has anyone made thier own? Also drawer slides...is this going to be a start from scratch or would one of the others be an easy make to fit deal??

i also just went ahead and purchased one of the open box for $314 shipped. i have been wanting a waeco/dometic cf-40 for a long time, but the price put it in the one-day-luxury list... at $250 less, the edgestar certainly will do for now.

If you go right now...theres 63qt AND 83qt open boxes listed...either one for $359.20 shipped. I just bought a 63qt! :)

I don't know whether to thank you or curse you - cause you just cost me $360!

Probably a luxury I could do without, but that's just a great deal (and a little more incentive to camp more). I was worried the 63qt would be too big, but it is only slightly bigger than the 43qt (really just 4" longer). No tax, no shipping, plus I don't need to buy a 5 day cooler now. :wings:

Yeah, I had the same worry.....then I was thinking I'd get the 83...and it's only a little bit bigger than the 63......hard to say no when they're the same price.....but then I settled on the 63....I can think of many instances where the 83 would be half empty or more.....so the 63 it was....got my notification it has already shipped....can't wait to try it out!

Just saw my fridge is backordered! And I was hoping to have it for a 10/30 camping trip. I wonder if they'll honor the price when they get it back in stock?

Got a call from Compact Appliance today. Apparently the fridge they intended to sell to me had a bad circuit board (versus some simple problem they could fix I imagine) so they were canceling my order. They did say they would honor the price when they get more in stock. We'll see, but so far so good.

Yep - pretty much same thing. I'm really not that upset about them overselling. As long as they honor the price, even if it takes a several weeks, I'll consider it a good transaction. I'd love to have it for my trip next weekend, but after that I probably won't need it until the spring.

Sure, they could track their inventory better but I don't think it was malicious or a bait and switch. My order status was listed as backordered fairly quickly and they called me, unprompted, to tell me they could not fill the order. Fair enough in my book.

Maybe I'm jaded by how poor customer service is getting, but my experience (so far) with Compact Appliance is at least at the "acceptable" level. If I never actually get the fridge for $359 - well that will change my perspective.

I just got my 86 qt, and have been brainstorming ways to get it weatherproof, as it has to go in the "bed" of my tacoma, absolutly won't fit in the extra cab.

First thought is to build an aluminum box for it, with access doors over the fridge vents that would normally be left open, only to be closed while travleing through rain/mud/extreme dust/silt. This will be expensive considering the cost of aluminum, the cost of hinges and latches not to mention I would have to buy a bottle of 100% argon and the aluminum welding wire and would eat up a lot of time...

Then it hit me, why not use those magnetic sheets to cover up the vents, only when traveling through adverse conditions, only with the fridge off. I'd seal up all the other seams on the fridge with silicone.

It should stay cold enough with items inside for a few hours at the very least, long enough to get to better running conditions thats for sure.

What you guys think?
