Cheap Fridge <$400 shipped

If you

Just stick a few frozen water bottles in there & pack the fridge really full. Basically, the water bottles will make the fridge a super cooler when it's off and you can have ice cold water later. I use towels to fill any void space after I remove a few beers, err I mean sodas.

Get the fridge running up to temp on a 110v extension cord, then when you're ready to go just plug it in to your vehicle. Throw a windshield shade to reflect any heat from the sunlight, and unplug the fridge when you get to your campsite.

After opening the fridge a few times, I'll start the vehicle (plug the fridge back in) to see what the thermostat reads...my cigarette plug only gives juice when the truck is on, so I didn't have to worry about unplugging. By regulating how often I'd open the fridge and keeping an eye on the thermostat, the temp never got above 41 degrees for me. These fridges will hold temp surprisingly very well! It's better than leaving it plugged in and hoping you don't drain the battery...at least until you install a dual battery system.

Roger. Thank you for the input. Just pissed I JUST had to buy a new batter for the wife's jeep. I may just buy a yellow top for my CJ and put it in hers for the long trip. Thank you very much for the insight.

I know it would be kind of a pain but could you temporarily pull the yellow top out of your CJ before your trip and run the fridge off the yellow top separately from the starting battery? That would isolate your engine battery. A yellow top is a sealed AGM battery and can be carried in the passenger compartment. You just need to strap it down really well to withstand a collision. You'd need to make your own power cable with an inline fuse but it won't cost you more than a few dollars to put that together.

My scratch and dent just came in. If it can withstand the shipping, it should be able to withstand everything I will throw at it.

I've been holding out for a 63qt, but man they have scratch and dent 43's for an amazing deal! I just wonder about that single latch verses dual. and I should really get that second battery installed first... uugh, so much to do. I just

I saw a 63 qt on special about a week ago and I run my 43 qt off my original tired single battery without any problems.

They had a scratch and dent 63 qt earlier this week - but they go fast... you probably need to be checking 3 times a day and be absolutely ready to buy in order to catch it. The sales rep told me they normally restock open box and scratch and dent items Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays, FYI.

We just got our 43qt. delivered today. The packing job was great and the fridge was double boxed. Pulled it out and plugged it in and am currently chilling 24 cans of soda. Tonight, I'm going to put it in the 4Runner and let it run all night and see if it starts in the morning. A new Sears Die-Hard Platinum battery will be put in this weekend. It will be so awesome to not have to deal with ice any longer!

That's an easy one. More challenging would be, would it start tomorrow night after sitting all day without a battery charge. Based on my experience, it more than likely would (assuming < ~75 degree ambient temp). I've found with my 43Q, the limit is somewhere between 24 & 36 hours (with an aging Optima yellowtop that has a wee bit of trouble holding a charge)...depending on ambient temperature, and set-point temperature.
Good luck! I hope you're as happy with yours as I have been with mine.

I got one a few weeks ago. Finishing up this project from last weekend and it will get installed in my 4Runner permanantly:
