Super nice, except they spent all that money and kept the front leaf springs.

I would probably not done anything different... well, maybe a rear Dana 60.

as much as I like the 4wu 3-link in my xcab, I’m not sure that I’d want it ina DD

Yep. Lots of ways to blow 100 G's on a vehicle. But, as much as I am a gearhead, these days I think I'd rather spend a 100 G's on a cabin / lake lot...
(Assuming I had 100 G's to spend frivolously....)

Used to want a cabin in the woods....and now it seems every summer we have a major wild fires down here. So not so much anymore.

Think my retirement "cabin" needs wheels.

For an Airsteam this isn't too bad.

The Airstreams are beauty! I always picture pulling one with a Grand Wagoneer or a Two-tone '73-'79 Suburban 2500 4x4 for some reason.
Or maybe a small airstream or Shasta being towed by a 1962 Chevrolet Impala wagon with a 425 horse dual quad 4 oh 9 would be nice .... Or a 1964 Suburban 4x4 tow vehicle... Or....

Ironic that the most reliable vehicles in the world usually get repowered with a Chevrolet.

Haven't Chevy v8's always been considered the poor man's preferred choice for an engine swap?

Not that a brand new LS is cheap, nor that the LS is a bad engine. But the engines seem so simple and easy to put together that they’re well-suited to project builds.

Not much into swaps or projects...but secretly would love to drop a LS into my Tacoma.

Availability of parts, aftermarket support and packaging are the biggest things, IMHO. Take a look at a LS next to a 2UZ... MASSIVE difference in size.

It is cool, but not $70K cool. Late 80's interiors...ewww.

The main issue for me and my wife (well beside not having an extra $70k...) is the lack of airbags in these older vehicles. I still have a Westfalia Syncro that I will keep around and which does not have airbags...but that's the last one I am keeping and I would not take it on long overland journey in Africa... We say a terrible accident in Australia where 2 teenager girls could have been saved if their car had had airbags. Seeing the whole thing right in front of your eyes was an eye-opener.
