While trying to find the link for you all, I stumbled across this, as I am sure you all have as many Nalgene bottles about as we have. Probably a good brew alternate but a pour choice for keeping it hot.

Unless it change, from what I remember, it was not a good idea to use hot whater in lexan nalgen bottle, specialy the hold ones. Phtalate releasing. My transaltion from french to english of the word could be wrong.

But I still use them for cold drinks.

I recently bought a French press for the purpose of camp coffee, and it has replaced my keurig as my daily coffee method. I use the keurig for the hot water though, it is faster than boiling on the stove. Coffee definitely tastes smoother and richer from the press. I've never been a huge fan of the keurig but convenience was the reason for using it. My french press will now be dual purpose, for home and camp.

That's how I started with my press too. It only takes once for you to forget to take it out of the kitchen and pack it, being forced to go a whole trip filtering your coffee with a cloth rag before you'll be ready to drop $30 on a cheap SS one to leave with your gear , lol ;)

pretty slick :) so the handle just rides along side kinda ? maybe velcro tie ?

pretty cool setup might have to replace my hario with that :)

I have the able metal disc and for me its a noticeable improvement in taste to :)
think mine is the normal but might have to try a fine one sometime

I use an Aeropress with a screen instead of filter, and found this little grinder that fits perfectly inside it.

Great combo for camping, and I also take it on business trips! Superb cup of coffee.

I'm now an Aeropress convert. I'm sticking to the paper filters because it's the easiest to clean with my low-water rig. (No sink, lots of dry desert camping, so toss/wipe/replace works best for me.) I bought one of the 3rd party caps that covers the end of the plunger and store my extra paper filters within. I'm not quite enough of a coffee zealot that I need to grind fresh for each cup, so I grind when packing for the trip and seal the grounds in a metal tin (a recycled Illy can) that rides in my chuckbox.

Part of my job as the early riser is to get coffee going while the girls sleep, so my coffee is necessarily "kitted" into the chuckbox so I can get it brewed without getting into the main food storage (which is stored under the bed and would disturb my sleeping wife to access)

cant disagree about paper filters for ease of use :) the metal are pretty good though and I just dump my grounds into the dirt and wipe the filter off with my finger and comes pretty clean :)
it is interesting how clean the aeropress is to clean though when its plunged I just again wipe off the end and good to go :)
I got one of those end caps not nice color mine is black :)

hear ya about pre grinding :) guess it gives me something to do then again training my kids so I do not have to :) ahhahahhah

why tea is nice sometimes

my setup was its own contained kit first thing out last thing in kinda deal :)

I'm an aeropress guy myself. Before I bought it I was using Starbucks via instant which really wasn't very good.

Yup, velcro strap to the side. It's amazing how perfect the fit into the hollow plunger the grinder is - it doesn't stick from friction but the vacuum created by trying to slide it out actually holds it in place! I agree the taste improvement over paper by the metal disk! I have the super fine version.

@Herbie - love your chuckbox setup!

me too. I have been using this method for a few years. Keurig is a great water heater but i have tried several of the coffees and have not found a great one yet. i can grind and press 20 oz of coffee to fill my hydroflask nearly as fast as i could cycle three pods through the keruig, have better coffee, and save money.

I'm not sure if this may be too "basic" but I just bought the new Nespresso Expert by Breville espresso and coffee machine a few weeks ago, and I'm loving it! It makes great espresso. I'd say it's about 99% close to the real Starbucks taste. This is a pretty basic machine, it uses pods, and makes espresso in 15 seconds. Now you did mention you were looking for a grinder too, so this may not be it. But if you are looking for a simple, great working machine that makes great espresso, I'd highly recommend it. And, it's only $330.
