Compensating for something???

An impressive lens for sure. They were hand-made, with supposedly only about a dozen or so in existence.... Here's a great link to a guy who got to play with one at the SLC Olympics:

With the crop factor on an XL-1 camera and a doubler he was getting an effective focal length of 17,280mm. Read that last sentence again, 'cause that wasn't a typo.... :Wow1:
 
Haha.. Yeah I saw that.

I guess if I was a good enough photographer that I could charge 20K for a wedding I could justify that as a business expense.


I know a photographer whose day rate is $4,500 and I'd bet he couldn't justify the expense of this lens. He is a Canon Pro and gets a majority of his gear given to him. If you had to justify the cost of this lens with the sale of photos or assignments, no one would ever buy one. Now, if you worked for a government agency . . .
