Cotter pins on rear brake pads broke.

I changed the rear pads and broke the cotter pins trying to get them out. Does anybody know the size of the pins so I can get them at the hardware store?

Where are you located and what vehicle? I have a bag full of SS cotter pins to fit a Disco 1 and D90 rear brakes. Don't know the size off-hand.

Do you have a part number? I was looking for the metal spring clips and they didn't have a listing for Discovery brake hardware.

Never reuse cotter pins.

While technically a good rule to follow, I can say I've reused them plenty in certain applications and never had an issue. I do always inspect them carefully.
In noncritical applications I don't have any concerns reusing them if they are in good shape.

As brake pad retaining pins I don't have a problem reusing them a few times since they aren't spread very far and metal fatigue isn't as much of an issue.

For tie rod ends, axles and applications like that I don't reuse them.
