Crisis = Danger + opportunity...

I recommend the tube bumper. It is always nice to keep the weight down. That being said my insurance bought me an ARB for my 1st Tacoma.

UPDATE: Estimate is in, check's on its way.

$1884.10. :Wow1: Damn, I didn't realize bumpers and all that plastic crap that hangs below them was so expensive!

Now my question, for those who have done this before:

There is some body damage that I would like fixed: The fender (maybe), the headlight housing that was cracked, etc.

Is it common for a shop to do all the work except the bumper, then just leave the bumper off, so I can take it to another shop to have the bumper put on? Because that's what I'd like to do. I got a nice estimate on an Addicted Off Road tube bumper yesterday that sounds very reasonable, but their shop is in Greeley, which is about an hour away. My preference would be to have the body work done minus the bumper, then just drive the (presumably bumper-less) truck to Greeley to have the bumper put on.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I would take the bad bumper off then take it to the body shop and tell them what you wont them to fix and that you have the bumper and to not worry about it. Dont, DONT tell them how much you got or that you got any money from insurance, tell them its all out of pocket if they ask. Or you can just round up the parts in town (maybe Jim's: http://jimsgotparts.com/ ) or the dealer. Jim's might have a fender in the same color as your. Save some more $$ by doing it yourself.

Tell them what you want. You're the man with the money. Assuming you told the insurer to send the check to you. And if you got a good breakdown of labor cost for each item (standard) you know just how much to back out of the estimate.
You're under no obligation. The money is yours.
