Curious about your thoughts???

To Infinity and Beyond!
In October I purchased a 1974 Blazer from the original owners family. It needs a restoration. All the sheetmetal that is need to be replaced is included with the Blazer. I purchased this Square Body Blazer because 1973-1975 Blazers have a full removable top which I like.

TODAY I was presented with the opportunity to purchase a 1991 Square Body 2500 3/4 Ton 4WD Suburban. I have been looking for this exact truck for a long time however in my opinion all were vastly overpriced given their condition. This Suburban is properly priced given the condition. I only wanted a 1991 4WD 2500 Suburban as they are the only year model Square Body Suburban with TBI injection AND factory Overdrive Transmission.

The 1974 Blazer would end up a fun cruiser but not a trail rig at all.

The 1991 Suburban would be built to travel, hit the trails and Overland if you like that term.

This leads to my question:

Without regard to the cost of the rebuild of either truck I am curious which truck you folks would YOU BUILD and WHY?

I look forward to hearing your comments!

To me they are two very different vehicle use cases. The Blazer, which are cool on their own rights, is more of the classic car type at this point. Restore/restomod and cruise around and enjoy it.

The Suburban is something I would use for adventure traveling. Like you said, it has EFI and OD, which is a big step into more comfortable travels. It has space to haul gear/people. Being a longer wheelbase, it's going to ride nicer for long trips.

Keeping both and building them up, is my first choice (coming from the guy who has owned 59 vehicles and up to 7 at one time) and use them for their appropriate use. If I could only keep one, the 'burb would be the one.

My vote? The Suburban, hands down.

Why? I just have always loved the looks and the extra roominess of the older Suburbans (and would still like to have one).

The Blazer? Just looks too blocky for my tastes. Likely has a hoppier ride too.

So, I guess I’d have to admit that it’s the looks, mostly

Not even close. The Suburban!

The Blazer is just a toy - and not a very rugged toy at that. I knew several people that owned those way back in the day and they were always breaking parts when off road. That classic Suburban, ESPECIALLY being a 3/4 ton, can easily be built into a reliable overlander or even daily driver. And to me the Burb is much "cooler" than a Blazer!
