Done with a the major stuff, now I just need to finish welding, put the mesh flooring on, put the light tabs on, tie down points (i have some little ideas in my head:sombrero

thanks Matt. i think when my rack sells i'm going to go this route as well adn build a backpack rack for the rear. i want my front sunroofback and don't need so much upstairs cargo room.

i decided to take the plunge...as soon as the roofrack sells, i'm going to begin. i can't decide whether i want to do a backpack rack, or an SD style front rack like yours. design would be as different as possible of course. i do not want to copy your design. i have some ideas floating around.
i do have a question about the software though. how much does it actually help? my father is an engineer and is a pro in autocad. does that program do anything autocad can't?
EDIT: i found an in depth look at it on the internet.
other questions. what OD and ID is the tubing you used? i was think 3/4" X 1/16"ID would be plenty sufficient with 1/8 flat stock for the mounts.

Thanks. I won't be building them... There's liability stuff that i don't want to risk (like getting sued because someone didn't tie down the cargo properly)
Not to mention that you would have to remove the roof bars for this to work, and the time I spent wouldn't be worth the $ I would make off these. I'll stick to building racks for some local jeep, yota, etc... guys and that way they can sign a release saying I'm not responsible.

yeah, it didn't clear the roof like I wanted to so I got rid of it. It doesn't really affect it...
I have the same mesh on my other rack and it's nice. Doesn't flex, good grip... I think other stuff you bolt or tie down to the rack looks like MMMM. This will look much better after it's powder coated too.
