Defecting to the east...

and will be seeking asylum in the TLC community. Though we still have the Land Rover, we decided a few weeks back to make the move to a Cruiser given that a Dormobile does not make such a great 2nd vehicle for day to day driving, especially during a Canadian winter. Perhaps as compensation for the winters we Canadians get "early" access to some neat JDM vehicles. I decided to take advantage of the situation and so may I present our yet un-named HJ61. (see picture below)

It has many of the goodies that were available on the HJ61's including AC, front/rear full floaters, snazzy velour interior with matching shag carpet and the PTO winch. I must admit that I would have rather had the cable lockers as I have a nice 8274 sitting in the shop but I am coming around to the idea of the PTO version. The biggest thing was finding a 5 speed version. I had seen a couple of autos around but the next step will be a Conqueror (I hope) so the manual seemed a must. Though the Land Rover has style in spades I think the LC will make a much better family vehicle and I am looking forward to our first big adventure with it (whenever that may be).

 [ Barry White Voice on ] Oh Baby...

And yeah... That AND a Dormobile... You sir have a 'quiver' of trucks... I'm jealous ;) and I thought all my bikes and boards were cool hahahahahaha.

Nice High roof mate, that truck looks nice! I promise you that driving a Cruiser is not the "soul-less" experience that some claim it is. Espescialy older ones ;) . Can't wait to see what you do with'er.

Cheers

The Land Rover is pretty cool to drive but I never considered the LandCruiser to be"soul-less" just more comfy. I have always liked the 60 Series but Cruiser Guy is right the 55's are just plain cool. I gave serious consideration to a 55 but like the Rover it was bound to be a project (turbo diesel swap, rust rehab, etc.). In the end we went for something with a little more refinement but I am sure sometimes I will miss the style that comes with a Series Rover/ TLC 55.

When I drive my '76 FJ55 there is all kinds of soul. It turns heads as good as any other.
Hell yeah it does!!!! I love a good 55, they're so hard to come by and really are such a cool Cruiser IMO. I was refering to what alot of Roverphiles refer to as the "soul-lessness" of Toyotas. I don't understand it, but I've read it more then once on this and many other boards. What some call "soul-lessness I call quality manufacturing ;) and good fit and finish :D

Cheers

Maybe they are referring to the soul of the wallet that they leave at the mechanic weekly!!

I'll take reliability over a Rover and if reliability has "soul" like my '55 so much the better! I just drove my '55 from Guatemala City to Canada in September and my only "problem" was a burned out headlight!!
