I should have the lower box framed in today. Just need to figure out what to use for the floor. Metal or wood. Or synthetic wood decking. Hmm...

Honestly, I'd junk those springs and get something made for a truck or a jeep. If you can weld, or know someone who can, it's a simple task, and the ride is extremely improved over normal trailer springs like you have. My trailer rides as nice, or better than my truck using springs from a Ford Ranger. The hangers can be purchased off a number of different off-road sites ( I think ballistic has them) and they're set up just like you have, but longer, softer leafs. A number of people here use Jeep YJ front leafs I think.

Do you think Toyota rear leaf springs will work? Ive got a few sets laying here from my toyota builds...

I don't see why not... The only word of caution is that they may be a little soft. The rear end of older Toys are pretty light. Then again, so are old Ranger springs like I used on mine, and they work fine for my 2,000lb trailer. Also, you can use anything you'd use on a truck to fine tune things (add-a-leaf, helper springs, shocks w/ springs, etc.).

In that case I'll use the Toyota springs because they are laying here readily available and I'm still under the $500 mark for this build! :)

Fixed it for you.

I have a pair of springs and there is no good way to store those puppies. Eagerly awaiting updates.

Got the lower box framed in and sat the top on. I'll finish welding the frame tomorrow then start prepping for paint. Ill paint the frame black and the box metallic gunmetal grey. Also need to find some composite decking for the floor....

I think I need a bigger truck!
Very kool idea. That trailer base is meant to hold a very heavy diesel compressor engine, fuel tank etc and will be nice and strong!

Looking good!!

I would also make sure to put a set of shocks on that too. That will help a lot with the bounce and so on. My utility trailer is a leaf only setup and rides GREAT when full but gets air when empty. Shocks should help with that big time.

So I got a little more done on my trailer. Lower box is frame is done except for the tail gate. Also stripped the yellow paint and rust off the upper box.

I also accidentally acquired a 60 watt solar panel. A guy I know came by the shop and said he heard I was building an adventure camping trailer and had something I may be interested in. A solar panel he had found at a salvage yard.... Said he had it for over a year and thought I could use it. I gave him $75 for it. It's a BP Solar SX 60 Multi-Crystalline.

The solar panel is about 2'x4'. It was putting out 13-14 volts outside the shop this evening.... Guess it's time to do some research.
