Dilemma deciding what to get

So this ignoring my last post about an LC without any modifications I just ran across this:http://www.texashotrides.com/1997-T...ted-w-All-Options-Addison-Texas-75001/5739539 ...I'd prefer and 80 series as previously stated. Plans for this (assuming everything works out) would be to strip whatever current suspension it has and run a full OME system, medium springs most likely, sell current rubber and get some new duratrac shoes.

Concerns are rust. I ran the VIN number and it's origins are from Montana. Other big concern I have when buying a vic that's already modified is wear and tear from previous owner(s).

Anything you guys can recommend you'd do or check out during and after a test drive?

The obvious item of concern is the head gasket, so attempt to locate previous service records. This LC looks very nice, the mileage is decent, and we paid a little less for our '97, but this is not an outrageous asking price.

I like the bold ALL OPTIONS and then it lacks lockers....

I am a die hard 80 guy but I think most people would have a happier ownership experience in 2016 starting in a 100.

I never once bashed on LCs, they are great tools. I'm glad there are people like you around though, because I enjoy the "rarity" of LR ownership. ExPo and everything is littered with LC and Toyota loyalists who poo-poo everything else. They'll never be 1/4 of the amount of Discos as there will be LCs and that is something I take pride in... daily driving a vehicle that most people think is a pile of unreliability... when in reality it's just a misunderstood (but sometimes headstrong) puppy. Most people compare them to supermodels but my truck is a little long in the tooth for that comparison. It just needs a little more attention at times but will reward you with loyalty.

Got ya going didn't I?

First of all, Nissan Patrols are the best 4wd ever made, hands down. The MB G's are awesome too but have serious issues with suspension travel, aftermarket support and they cost way to much. Land Cruisers are the next best thing. I am no blind brand loyalists. But from years of experience, the Cruiser rock the socks off everything else, besides the Patrols which we can't even have.

First trucks I fell in love with, while I was in my teens, were Rovers and Unimogs. I had Petersons 4wd and other mag articles pinned up on my walls that featured Rovers. When the D110 was released, I dreamed and dreamed, then came the D90 and I dreamed some more. Then I bought a LC, almost bought a RR and a Cherokee but steeled for the FJ60. Sure am glad I did that, even more than 25yrs later.

You can go on about how good or how much you like your Rover all you want but this is the Cruiser section of the forum, so we here are Cruiserheads.

I live in posh mnt. resort town, I see lot's of D90's here. Sat in and stood next to a few of my clients D90's. If they are so awesome why does every single nut & bolt on these trucks rust out fast. I have literally seen D90's bleeding rust from every bolt in the body. Ahhh, must be Rover used cheap *** hardware, surprise surprise.

Styling wise Rovers are cool but for me that is where it ends. I have had lot's of Cruisers, a super nice Tacoma, a 6x6 Pinzgauer and a whole slew of Nissan Patrols including non-USA trucks. The Patrols are the best and I could go on and on as to why but this here is a Cruiser section of this forum, so what's the point? Oh and rarity gets ya excited, I have one of three Nissan Patrol pickups in the USA, hows that for rare!? Or how about my 1983 Patrol on portal axles? There is only a few of those on the planet and this truck was never even sold in this country. While I like rare, only 2616 Patrols ever sold in the USA, I don't buy for rarity I buy for quality. Last thing I want to do on a drive to Central America is be messing with fixing my Rover. :p

Cheers

We can agree on one thing, I would choose a Y61 Patrol over anything else if I had the choice. Can't get them here though.

No one is selling 70s for the asking prices.

The shine isn't what it was. Negotiate, but i say, get a 60 if you want leafs. 80s and 100s are better suvs.
