Disco 2 got wet. Inside. :(

So I took my Disco off-road the other night and got stuck pretty bad. Had to leave it running overnight so water wouldn't get in the motor. Fluids are good, but I think the transmission control unit got wet. I'm getting the error code on my OBDii: P0600. Symptoms are:
1) in drive, it stays in a single gear. By my reckoning, it's in third gear.
2) the indicator says I'm in neutral, even if I'm driving in reverse.
3)(I think this is caused by #2) the keylock won't disengage, so my key is stuck in the ignition.
All I've had time to do since then is park her, open everything up to let it air out, and unhook the battery. My parents live in a safe neighborhood in the country, so I left it with them.
I thought I'd start by removing the TCU , disassembling, and cleaning it, before I order a new one.
As it was primarily the left side that got waterlogged, and the TCU is beneath the front left seat, it stands to reason that this is the issue. But since I'm new to land rovers, I thought I'd ask you nice people.

Also, Happy Thanksgiving, and thanks in advance for help or advice! :)

Are your M and S lights flashing? Sounds like you are in limp mode. When water/mud gets into the XYZ switch this happens. Most people find this out after the A/C drain drips onto and into the switch. You can usually get out of limp mode by turning the vehicle off and back on or I can reset the code with my ultra gauge. If this does not work, you either need to clean out the XYZ switch (it's riveted together) or get a new one.

Hope this info helps.

While this forum is great, you would be better served to sort out repair issues on landroverforums.com. Every issue possible has already been asked/answered many times.

Welcome to the sickness!

I'd also suggest a search over on dweb, it's a rough place but if you are looking for Discovery tech in the U.S., its there.

Well I pulled out the Transmission Controller. It was located beneath the driver's seat, and coated in mud. I cleaned it with pure water and a tooth brush. Doing so revealed that many of the contacts had already corroded away. So I have ordered a used one from eBay. They claim it works. I'll continue cleaning it out until my part arrives, and go from there. (S and M lights were not flashing.)
What is an XYZ switch? I've not heard of it.

I suppose I should create an account on those forums...

We are probably talking about the same thing. Google and download the Rave manual, it's the Land Rover repair book available for free all over the net.

Did you get this sorted out? I now think we were talking about two different things ... I guess the controller you mention is inside the vehicle? The XYZ switch is underneath.

Yeah, i did. I still have yet to put the carpet back in, but i got a new TCU, and the lights are all gone. While i had her tore down, i replaced the thermostat with the motorad, and rebuilt the front propshaft. Runs properly.(So far...)
