Do you have a Ford ranger or Maverick with a pop-up shell? Need Advice

I am considering my next camper build to be either a Ford Ranger or Maverick sporting a lightweight pop-up shell such as the Overland or Topo….or?

But unfortunately, I have a uniquely frustrating (and stupid) problem with having a camper parked at my house.

My HOA rules require that I park a rig inside of my garage if I have any kind of a “camper” on it so I really need some help from y’all to figure out if I can buy a small truck, put a pop up shell on it and still keep it parked at my place.

If anyone has some real life ownership experience with either of these two models carrying a pop-up shell, could you please share information here about the total height of your Ranger or Maverick with a pop-up shell on it?

Thx mucho 🙏🏻

About 82” which, while maybe standard, is kind of small for today’s vehicles
Wow, that is low. Was just curious as I have a 7'6" door and cannot get my Tacoma with FWC in unless I flatten the tires. Only did it once to do some maintenance on it. I have since built a shop with 10 foot doors. Friend of mine has a new Ranger and it sits a bit high in the tail.

Perhaps a DIY truck cap with a pop-up (and out?) top that will fit in your garage? Hardsided when down, but lots of volume when up, and a large rear door for entry without needing to duck/squat/crawl? Using the lowered tailgate and raised liftgate for additional volume beyond the bed?

Perhaps a really tall DIY truck cap with hammock mounts? It isn’t a truck camper but rather a tall cap that can keep all your camping gear dry. 😎

Perhaps a DIY truck cap with a DIY RTT that will fit in your garage OR is tall and parked outside? Maybe the RTT is designed with an annex in the back for enclosed, and possibly heated, space for sitting/scatting/cooking/etc. It isn’t a truck camper but rather a truck cap with an RTT. 😎

Thanks for the various ideas guys.

FWIW, I’m specifically looking for some kind of a pop top shell so we can stand up in it once at camp. But again, it has to fit into the garage.

While a DYI solution would have worked years ago, I’m frankly too old, impatient and lazy to build my own pop top shell 🫤

So hopefully….someone here will have some Measurements to Share🧐

Right now we have this cool model of an incredibly compact pop up mini van:

We’re only considering selling it and getting a small pickup because it’d be very useful again to have the multi purpose ability of an empty truck bed being available to haul stuff.

Just in case you haven’t seen one of these incredible, versatile little vans, check out this video:

Good find…and that would Almost do it…

But, the bed length of the ranger xcab and the bed length of the maverick would mean that only a short person would be able to sleep N-S in this 😕

And the chubby version doesn’t seem wide enough for a 6’0” guy to sleep E-W either unfortunately.
