hey guys....n00b on this and starting to do research..found this thread on a search.

Im considering using this arkpak as my dual battery set up to power my fridge because of versatility for other things....is there a way to plug this into the vehicle, so it charges off the alternator while driving, but then not drain the main vehicle battery once it is shut off?

thnx!
There is 2 different ways to do this, both will need to be a wired in as "keyed hot" to not drain down your main battery:
  1. Cigarette lighter
  2. Anderson Plug

We recently installed one at our shop in a Honda CRV, depending on your load you may want to consider option #2 with running a fridge on your set up.

yeah....i guess id either need to run the cable from the front of the vehicle to where the arcpak is or find a way to have my rear 12v switch off when the vehicle goes off....

Thanks. Can you explain the anderson plug a little? I'm not familiar with it.

What is everyone's experience with the float voltage on the Arkpak? Mine usually hovers between 13.1 and 13.2, but I've seen it as high as 13.3 and now is currently sitting at 12.9 which seems too low for an AGM battery. Do you think this will keep the battery in proper shape? For what it's worth, I don't ever discharge the battery below 12.2v (it's a diehard platinum marine 31m).

Hi Pdxfrogdog

sorry for the really long delay in coming back to about the great question you have raised in relation to the float voltage, the specific reason this can occur is approx every 15 mins the battery will go into a testing cycle (it will be displayed in bottom left hand corner of LCD) it is during this time that the charging process is stopped while the smart charger puts the battery under a test, during this test the battery can drop 0.1 to 0.2 volts once the testing cycle is finished and reverts back to a float cycle the voltage should climb slowly back up to 13.0 to 13.2 volts

if you have any more questions please ask.

Has anyone used the $175 PowerPak battery box? I emailed Brett with questions, but haven't heard back.

I just want to run my Engel MT40 fridge and charge the phones with the smaller unit. Does the smaller unit have any USB's? Or just the one 12v plug?

Hi ebg18t

i have emailed back to your questions but just in case you log on here before you check emails the Power pack product code DA10W is not available for supply in the USA it is only available for supply in Australia, the power pack has one 12 volt outlet and no USB charging port.

if you have anymore questions please ask away

Ark 2014 Christmas New year shut down period

Hi all

just wanted to advise that Ark Australia will be closed from Friday 19/12/2014 and re open Monday 05/01/2015, you are still able to make purchases from the USA website no problem at all, if you require tech support you will have to wait until after the 05/01/2014.

i will do my best to log on and check if there are any questions in this shut down period, but as i am going camping i may not get good connection.

Regards
