Driving slow on fast freeways?

All I ask is people do the speed limit... thats all. Slow moving vehicles are not only dangerous, but cause congestion. If your vehicle is capable of doing the speed limit, then please do so.. or move to a road with a slower speed limit.

It's called a limit for a reason, as is the minimum speed limit. I don't care how much tonnage you're hauling, if your rig can't do 45 up a slope, then by the letter of the law it should not be on the interstate because it's a hazard.

Or you could just make trucks not at fault under those circumstances...lol..either way works for me. What I hats is that jack ***** who passes you, then slows down..so you pass them... then they pass you and do the same thing again.

Trucks do that to me every day. Often they do it side-by-side and won't let anybody pass.

Nobody's ganging up on you because you drive a truck. Nice throwing that out there though..

I drive over 25k miles a year and don't get paid for any of it. I will say that more times than not when trucks are driving side by side they have saved my *** from a speed trap. Take notice next time you complain about a truck in the left lane and you will spot the patrol car over the next hill waiting for you.

Thanks to all of the OTR drivers that have saved me a ticket.

At 45 or less in a 65 zone, they're not saving me any tickets.

And I must add that the vast majority of OTR truckers are exemplary in their courtesy on the road.

Same goes for every other vehicle..whats your point? hills are extenuating circumstances. trucks go slow up hills because we are forced too, not by choice.

It ain't, but this ain't no Corvette forum.

Most of us have mod'd our vehicles or are traveling near or at (or exceeding) GVWR and have horribly underpowered and under-efficient engines from the factory and in most cases are not paid at all and drive many thousands of miles more than your average joe for everything and for every year. Each speed increment costs us real money in fuel (we get not a whole lot better mileage than the long haul trucks) but yet we get no more vacation than the average joe and can't afford the time of a 4k mile roadtrip for vacation on the side roads--which consequently we would love to do but have limited time and money to so do.

See, few if any of us on this forum would ever possibly have that ability! Driving a 6800 lbs vehicle with about 100hp max does not get you passing anyone just to be able to exit.

Edit, actually and via calculation, going 65mph at GVWR in my Troopy yields 135hp which just meets the engine rating from Toyota brand-new.

I see your point, but you have to understand..your recreation can inhibit someone else's profession. When I pull my camper with 2 Kayaks, and two mountain bikes on top.. plus my truck loaded down with a sport bike from Florida to New Mexico every year...I pay the penalty of diminished fuel economy to do the speed limit rather than save a few MPG and go slower. But I am also in a 2wd Tundra and nowhere my GVW like you guys.

I guess you and I will have to *utterly and completely* disagree about all of this.

That said, when you're back stateside we should continue our heated debate over a couple of chilled beers.

If I see you in my mirrors, I'll make an effort to pull over if you make an effort to not run me down.

You can thank corporate cheap asses and underpowered governed trucks for that one. Rather than focus on better drivers and maintaining higher speeds in more efficient trucks..they force drivers to go slower and bog down motors.

BTW: when I get back I am going to finish my BSN, no more workign for me for a while... if you see me in your mirror it will be on two wheels (sometimes one ;-) )

On two wheels (or one) is an excellent place to be. For me it's either a KLR or a DR350.

We can just completely quit hauling you toilet paper and necessities if you want.

An 80K truck is not capable of going that fast up a hill period. Even if they made an engine that would handle the torque it would take the tires would not.

BTW, the minimum speed limit is the speed you must maintain on level ground. The law states that vehicles climbing steep grades are exempt from this regulation.

That's a spectacularly good argument for using rail transportation. The trucking industry is driving nails into it's own coffin.
