Dual Band Antenna Mounting Location?

The roof is better, but you may have some interference with the CB antenna. Keep them as far away as possible. I think I've heard one bandwidth is preferred. .....
So for 2M that would be around 6 feet, for CB that would be around 10M or 30 feet, not very practical IMHO. :sombrero:

Diamond makes a nice NMO mount that only requires a small hole.

Not through the roof but you can see how it works

I have two trucks with 2M and CB radio antennas, in both cases it is impractical to use both at the same time. The 2M breaks squelch on the CB every time I key it. Eventually I turn the CB squelch so high I can't hear any body.

The standard Wilson through the roof mount is totally different from an NMO mount. They do however share the same size hole so you can swap them out.

You called it. But I was able to get a shorty Comet dual band antenna (14" or so) that screwed right on, and an adapter for the other end for my current Yaesu HT. Result is quick hookup without having to change mounts. I can revisit when I get a dedicated truck radio in place of the HT.

I'll probably put the CB on the rear tire rack and sacrifice some range for convenience. That's about as far apart as I can manage.

I have no problem drilling holes in the roof for a quality installation, and I absolutely hate the afterthought look of clamp on mounts, regardless of how they're done. Everything is a sacrifice, of course.

Funny thing- I went to the Ham shop and explained my problem. The Ham guy just laughed and pointed to the parking lot where every single vehicle had a little farm of antennas, each about 6" from the next one. Maybe I've been overthinking this!

Glad you found something that will interchange...

Mine are somewhere around 14-16" apart and haven't had any issues to speak of..

We get that a lot in this place. In fact, if you went to HRO in Anaheim, you would have noted that most of those antennas in the parking lot are on "lip mounts" or truck bed pocket mounts......including all the larger motorized HF units.:coffeedrink:

Guilty as charged. And yes on HRO.

I talked with my Dad this morning through the Mt. Disappointment repeater 45 miles away and it sounded great.
