You're off to a good start! I might just have to drive out to Astoria and see this rig take shape (and fill up my growlers at Ft. George). :)
uh, i'll fill your growler in in exchange for insight in to what you've got in the works.....(you may have to lift an axle as well)

Looking good! Wish I had the tools, time, and space to do more of the conversion myself. I just finished my conversion a couple weeks ago and have already put about 1800 miles on it. Running great and need to update my thread. I got the same wheels as you too. You'll just have to add some material to the steering limiters to keep the wheels from rubbing your leaf pack. If you run an aluminess tire carrier it will need a spacer too. Otherwise - keep showing us the goods! You're going to love this rig.

i already love her Fred, that's why i'm gonna make her into a tank:)

Hmmmm

so i'm a Ford guy, through and through. Not to exclude the virtues of other brands(allsions and cummins) but my first car had an oval and i've preferred Found-On-Road-Dead since....
that said, my sterling reeks of something amiss (like a pinion gear SLIGHTLY dulled)

No plans to tear the rear apart but should this change that? For what it's worth, the rear spins like a dream, despite the emulsified gear oil that's currently draining from the housing. If it's not broke.....have an axle imbecile (me) attempt a fix?

i really don't want to

Very nice.....you are off to a great start for sure!
(naterry's idea of using old unit bearing on a brake rotor for install of big seal was class:bowdown:)

^^ any insight on this? I need to do this as well but dont want to buy the tool for a one time use

Buy good bits. Made for STEEL, and not just drilling thick sheet metal. A good low speed drill.

The single biggest pain in the ******** was the amount of bits I chewed through, and the almost broken wrists when the single speed, high speed drills I had would invariably fetch up and do their best to twist my hands off at the wrist before I could get off the trigger.

The biggest challenge of this conversion is staying organized, well fueled (eat food), and focused. I found that documenting my build progress each day helped to keep me focused and organized. (and even reminded me of a few things that I missed) You might want to assign someone to force you to eat. I won't stop working to eat unless told to by an adult...
