I found this in the Northern Tool catalog.

It says the spade is 22" long, so I looked at the Pull Pal and its spade is 24" long.

I wonder if this would actually work for a self recovery tool

Anyone else seen or heard of this ?

No actual use, just opinion... but that thing actually scares me a bit. I can't see how it would create a pulling point for anything bigger then a quad.

I think it would make a fine projectile under load, but that wasn't your question. I'd buy the real thing (PullPal) or fabricate something similar.

so is it the angle that the pull pal has that keeps it fom becoming a projectile ? what if this was anchored at an angle as to dig deeper under load and not set straight up ? or even a modification of this in some way ?

Given the price ratio, this toy should be able to withstand about 1200 pounds force. Or not. Wait a month - Harbor Fright should be selling a knockoff for $19.95. Oh, ick.

I figure that if I can get it to where the eye is at ground level and the auger part is 4 feet under ground, it may hold just enough to get me out. I'll let you know how it goes.

Bringing a tractor with you? How do you plan to get the auger bit 4' into the ground?

I bought one of these at the recommendation of someone in out club. I kept it in my vehicle and when we went to the Outer Banks. In short I got my truck stuck to try it out with the Toyota Trails Team. When i pulled it out they all laughed at me and said it would not work.......and it didn't

My winch pulled it right out of the sand. I put it in at a sharp angle and and buried it my winch pulled it right out again.

I think it is useful for ATV's.

Please stay away from this little money separator.

snipecatcher, that looks more like a dog tie-out or canopy anchor. Don't think I would trust the eye on that thinf to hold with 4000lbs or more on the end. But lets us know how it works for you.

It will be something to screw around (no pun intended) with when I get a day off work. The worst it can do is bend, and I'm out $15, no big deal. I'll probably just make my own version of a pull pal one of these days. I'm just not looking forward to the size and weight of it.
