It looks like they used that wheel setup on the Ends of the Earth: Central America trip. I didn't hear of any problems being reported.

It will be interesting to see if SRW will become a F550 factory option some day. I'll be in the market for a truck upgrade when Ford straightens out their diesel problems and the new Scorpion is a proven engine. At that time I would like to go SRW, but have to say 90% of the world doesn't need this set up as most people don't even drive off paved roads for the most part.

Fender Flare question
Does anyone know what brand of fender flares were used on the Earthroamer in conjunction with the wheel/tire upgrade that's the subject of this thread. I'm putting the same tires on my F550. I was under the impression they were Bushwacker fender flares. However, the Bushwacker folks have informed me otherwise. Any help or alternative ideas would be appreciated.

Turtle V uses "custom Bushwacker fender flares" ( http://www.turtleexpedition.com/vehicles/turtle5.php ) - I wonder why they couldn't do the same for you ? ? ? That doesn't seem right...

Maybe I just didn't reach the right contact person at Bushwacker. I'm going to try again and see what shakes out. In the meantime I'm open to ideas.

Bob: When I spoke with Gary at the Overland Expo, I thought he told me the whole front fenders were aftermarket. Not just fenderflares. Where are some pictures of the truck??

You're correct, I remember they mentioned bringing a computer digitizing system to measure cut fenders and model the new fender flares prior to producing the custom made fender flares.

x3 on this. I still have the issues where they covered part of the build and they are trimmed stock fenders with custom bushwacker flares. I ought to dig up those articles again! They were pretty good articles, I was bummed when they stopped following the build up mid way through.

I just mounted a set of the cut-out Bushwacker front fender flares on my F550 and they worked out great. They interfered a bit with the Fab Four bumper so I headed them up with a heat gun and pressed them into place - now I have a "custom" fit that looks great (IMO). I am running 34" tires on the front but the wheel has less of an offset than stock. No problems with clearance on the radius arms. There was a small flange that stuck out from the bottom of the body that I trimmed off. 5 minutes with a grinder - DONE.
I feel the turning radius is still very good for such a large truck. The F550 has a much tighter turn radius than a standard F350 because the front axle is different. I am sure I lost a little bit with the larger tires but it is worth it for me. The truck rides much better as well.
