EarthRoamer XV-JP "Northwest Edition"

I would be curious to hear how the $10,000 was spent. That's a lot of money for jeep parts like a bumper and a new stove?

Our website tells you who we are. We are a mother and father starting a business to create positive social change. We are passionate about eco-friendly building, creating good paying jobs, donating to charity, and creating a socially responsible company.

I realize some folks have good intentions and big hearts. Sometimes those leed to poor financial decisions. I wonder if any of the jeep money was reallocated to fund the social change?

I´m sorry, but this thread has turned into something that, in my opinion, really does not belong in a forum like this. And I'm not choosing sides here, I don't need to do so, just saying.
I believe it was appropriate to post the photos and factual descriptions showing the condition of the XV-JP when it was received, and at the time I did that, I did not consider that there would be a public dispute with Red Cannon about who was at fault for the money and vehicle value lost. Dion's post putting the blame on me, and the course that the thread has taken after that, was as much a surprise to me as anyone.

Hang in there for another day or two, though. I am working to get things straightened out.

I am very grateful for having a crack team of researchers helping me out on this. I really appreciate that you guys have found these things.

I'm not adept at Facebook or other social media or at knowing just where to look for useful information. And when I do a Google search and follow the Facebook links, it looks like Red Cannon is doing just great, five stars and 250 likes, or something like that. Nothing of what has gone on here seems to be available to the general public and prospective customers, and I don't understand that. I do know that it will be a real injustice if I have to go through the loss of my truck, my money, my sleep and my previously sunny attitude and Dion comes out of this with nothing but happy Facebook car stereo customers.

I admit to my brain not being up to its usual fine self lately, as the problems have just kept coming over the past month, so I all this support counts for even more. Fortunately, things should get somewhat more settled soon. Early this week I should hear from the local attorney to learn if Dion even responded to him, and the insurance agent should let me know if there's any chance of getting anything from State Farm. And it should become clear whether I'll need to get an Iowa attorney to try to get back some of the money loaned to Dion for the mold making.

In any event, I'm incredibly glad that The Week of Unbelievable and Dreadful Surprises has come to an end.

Not only is it the policy of this forum that slander is disallowed, it is often illegal and subject to criminal charges. There have been several recent cases of slander on forums, where the forum owner has been subpoenaed to provide information about a member defaming an individual or company. This is serious stuff! If you are going to make claims about an individual or a company, make sure they are 100% true and not exaggerated, and come from first-hand or well-documented knowledge. Gone are the days that someone who didn't read the directions for a product can have a failure or installation issue and then publicly defame the company.

While watching this right now does satisfy a very dark, voyeuristic craving, I would like to turn the discussion in a different direction. I am about 90% through the build of my Flippac camper, and I'm wondering:

1. Do you think anything with a large area of fabric-sealed-to-fiberglass can ever be watertight enough for year-round use in the Pacific Northwest?
2. Would it make sense on a future build to focus more on a "hose-out safe" interior and features that promote the rapid rejection of water that can't be fully kept out?
3. Would an all-plastic or glass unit be more practical ultimately? I am thinking about how boats, amusement park rides, etc are built - a glass or composite shell with interior features also constructed at the time the hull is laid up.
4. Any other "lessons learned" on the practical aspects?

Thanks!

Let me say that I was, twenty minutes ago, as posted immediately above, inclined to move on, as my local attorney had suggested that there were not enough Kranz/Red Cannon recoverable assets to warrant the cost of instituting litigation.

If, however, Dion does indeed have the resources to begin expensive legal action, that may be a good thing for me and my chances of recovering something might increase. It will also be better to handle the evaluation of the situation through our attorneys than publicly. As I have been careful throughout to make only accurate and supportable statements, and the extent of Red Cannon's breeches of the contract are not in dispute, the fact that Dion now has an attorney is likely a positive for me going forward.

I believe the information that has proved most destructive to the reputation of Dion Krantz and Red Cannon Expeditions is the photos showing my Jeep before going to Red Cannon and how if looked when it returned,

Hiscox Jeep good 2 (2).jpg Jeremy18.jpg

P1020267.jpg P1020294.jpg

and I don't know how that can be "false." But all the trouble admittedly did start when I showed the result of their work, though I'd have thought a customer has the right to do that.

The assertion that I can be held responsible for anything happening to their Facebook page and e-mail seems dubious. I truly don't know a damn thing about it.

We're going to get this thread locked for sure with this sort of discussion, and with Dion's posts removed, the last month of it won't make sense anyway. As stated, I do intend to get this back to being a build thread Real Soon Now, and I ask for the brief forbearance of the moderator.

As per your lawyer's instructions, you're destroying admissions of guilt and evidence of your character and behaviour over this matter? That sounds like a terrible idea, and you'll likely find that removing your posts from this site has become more difficult with recent events around here. Furthermore, all posts are archived and would be accessable to the courts if they're required.

Wow... Mike, with every post, I feel more and more sorry for you getting involved with these people.

This thread is so epic. It literally has something for everyone. You know a thread has reached mythical "five star" status when the "messages from my lawyer" come out. Solid gold right there.

But seriously, I do hope this story comes full circle and we get to see a resurrection of the Jeep in grand fashion. I know it will cost more money (sorry about that), but watching Paul do his thing was one of the more pleasurable thread "follows" I have ever experienced...

This thread certainly delivers.

Holly cow what a mess.

Real unfortunate it went the way it did.

I really do not see how this could be settled without legal action.
And IMO legal action is easily justified.

But just like most things, your standing is only as good as your ability to fight (and pay) for it.

Such a shame.:(

If they had the funds to pay for a real lawyer, that would indeed be good news for Mike. Unfortunately, no competent lawyer would ever advise a client to spoil evidence, both because it would earn the client an unfavorable inference at trial, and because it could earn that lawyer a disciplinary investigation with the Bar.

Iowa Jury Instruction on the subject:

100.22 Spoliation of Evidence. (Name of party asserting the conclusion) claims that (name of party) has intentionally [altered] [destroyed] [failed to produce] evidence consisting of (describe evidence). You may, but are not required to, conclude that such evidence would be unfavorable to (name of party).
