Easy web access for mother-in-law?

My mother-in-law is 81. She has been using web tv from MSN to get e-mail and very seldom check out a web site.

She wants to get away from paying $25/month for what she has and get a cheaper service(not a problem) and something easy to get her e-mail and occasionally a web page

Any suggestions? It needs to practically bomb proof. She's in Florida and I'm in Wisconsin so I won't be able to help her out with problems if they come up. Cost can't be too high either.

If you have any skills with Linux, I'd recommend that you get an old desktop top. Then wipe windows off of it, install Linux, lock it down and put just two icons on the desktop. One for the web and one which takes her directly into her email account.

Or you could get an old desktop, put windows XP on it and set up the icons as before. Just make sure there is a good anti-virus program on it.

Should be able to do that for less than $300 bucks.
