When I turn my key on the check engine light doesn’t come on instantly it takes about two minutes Then you hear a click then the check engine light comes on runs It’s checked and shuts off like it supposed to.And if you turn the key on and the check engine light doesn’t come on you can turn the engine over but it will not fire. Some times the check engine light will come on when you turn the key and sometimes you have to wait ????. SOMEONE PLEASE KEEP ME FROM INSANITY!!!!!!!!

Sounds a bit like the alarm kill switch is kicking in. What Montero year do you have? There is an excellent write-up here on ExPo on how to remove that alarm system from Gen 2’s and Gen 2.5’s. It’s not a true OEM system, it was added at the Port when they were shipped in and it’s a kludge.
