Scott,

We are also still on.

Do you have any more info (or a link) on the permits, where to get them, etc.? I suppose everyone has to get theirs in person?

I am a "definite" :D Hopefully Mrs. Baja will be along. If not, I will secure a passenger, as this is one not to miss, and a seat absolutely cannot go wasted.

Holy cow....If I were to actually meet you in the flesh...

Between the two of us, I'm thinking we're going to fill up the Expedition Portal period quotient. How many times have you had to replace your keyboard from a faulty "." key? ;)

I'm very excited to meet the folks on this list, as I only know Scott, Uwe, and Chris:

1. Scott: Tacoma
2. Al: Tacoma
3. Brian: Discovery
4. Vince: Tacoma
5. Jonathan and Roseann: Tacoma
6. Mark: 06 Frontier
7. Dude: Tacoma
8. Uwe: 4Runner

Cheers,
Mark

Mark - the first few lines of your website profile resonates - (having auditions thousands of drummers) it made me laugh. :D

I look forward to meeting you too on this trip... :camping:

Uwe,
Permits can be obtained from the Range Management Department Box 99160 Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, AZ 85369-9160 Phone 928-269-2799. I'm planning on getting mine 1st AM on Friday.

The permits are actually Barry M Goldwater Range Permits. They are a hold harmless permit for entering the range.

Since so many require the permits, I am going to adjust the schedule so that everyone can take care of the permits on Friday morning. Look for more details early next week.

Well, thanks to the good doctor (Ed), he researched the permit situation and found that the process is much improved:

"Marine Corps Air Station
HRO Range Permit Office
Box 99104
Yuma, AZ 85369-9104

I sent an e-mail to AZPLIC and they in turn directed me to a website for info on permits for the Barry Goldwater Range:
http://www.luke.af.mil/StaffAgencies/RMO/RMO_visitors.asp

I just spoke with a guy at the Yuma Marine Corps Base. He says we don't have to watch the video any more. It can all be done by mail.

Download the Hold Harmless/Application form from the website, complete it, send that along with a copy of driver's license and a stamped self addresssed envelope to them and they will issue the permit and mail back.

Whew...that's a relief. I was wondering how I would be able to watch the video, etc., and not have to go a day early.

Hope this info is useful!

Ed"

Chris,

Good question on the NWL permit. I dont know the answer to that. Hopefully I can follow-up next week to find the details.

Scott/Chris,

My understanding is they are all the same. My old permit is marked:
BMGR/CPNWR Permit # *******.

According to my old "Information Sheet" from 2003, the permits are issued for entry to the Barry M. Goldwater Range, Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge, or The Sand Tanks(formerly Area A).

I also tried to down load your link, but nothing was there.
